The hotel is within walking distance of the track apparently- PW is attempting to find out whether the organisers have a secured/guarded pit area so that we can leave gear at the track and just walk back to the hotel each night... of course that is personal choice though :)

PS I'm going too...

I
lived in Bilbao from 1999 to 2001 and I can say that these people know what a jolly good time is! Looks like the track is quite near the "casco viejo" (the old city). They stay out at night until 8 - 9 am. Seriously!

I would suggest to anyone who can afford the time/cost to go down early or stay a bit after and check out the beaches and the fiestas during the days you're there. They have this thing where each town's patron saint day is cause for their own grand party of the year. Ask the organizers which towns as celebrating their fiestas during the Euros. It will be well worth it. Especially for those interested in meeting friendly, attractive women ;)

Mundaka beach has world class surfing, el antxobe is a town stuck on the ocean where you swim in the port! There is a connecting bridge called el puente Colgante. Google it!

Hello rcracer1.

Nice to read that you know our nice city and Bizkaia province . The Euro 2009 is from 10th to 15th of august and the Bilboko Aste Naguzia (Bilbao´s main week) start on 16th to 24th. So if you can stay some days after the Euro you will enjoy it. But if you can´t, during the Euro you can go to the Portugalete celebrations (Is just in the conecting bridge) and also there are celebrations in Getxoko Portu Zaharra (Getxo´s old port). Very funny celebrations where you can taste "kalimotxo" (Look what it is in google :p). Is possible to reach both places with the subway.

Just a couple of corrections rcracer1. The council of "Elantxobe" (All together) cancelled the celebrations in the sea port a couple of years ago to aboid problems, many drunken tourist needed to be recued from the water. But you biggest mistake is that the basque women are attractive, yes, but not really friendly at all :cry::cry:.

rc boy, the layout is going to be the same that in the warm up.

Cheers.

The other thing i had thought of was if a few of us wanted to buy in bulk we could get tyres sent to the hotel, if anyone wants in on this idea let me know and ill see what i can do :)

Just a recomendation for the people who wants to go out in the night for the diferent celebrations that I told you. I don´t want to enter in political problems, but please, avoid to wear any shirt of the spanish football selection, real madrid, with the spanish bull or things like that. You are not visiting Benidorm and the local people who goes out in those partys is mainly basque nacionalist and they don´t use to like those simbols.

Normaly nothing use to happend, there are no fights and problems at all, just fun. But this summer is different, so just in case.

Yeah they don't like the brits either, people have to remember its not spain it's basque country. ;)

For the first part of you message, not at all, brithis pleople is really very welcome in Bilbao. In fact all the city has a big english touch. England has historically been one of the best business partners of Bilbao.

The local football team, the Athletic Club Bilbao was founded by English engineers in 1898 and some of the most loved coachs of the team are from england, like Mr. Petland in the early XX century or Howard Kendall for example and San Mames stadium is thypical English style. The people from New Casttle is specially welcomed since the late 90´s :D. And people like english way to play football.

For the second part many, many people thinks that but I just wanted to awarm to all the people who wants to go out, nothing else. English, Scottish or Irish football shirts are loved here.
