As the topic was on TG last night it reminded me of my very first car. Back in 1978 it was.....
A Red Vauxhall Victor 2000 SL (like the one on Randle and Hopkirk). My mum insured it for me in her name for me to "drive to the shops" . I really loved that car for all of 6 months and 2 gearboxes before I wrote it off. Hit a hedge, tree, wall and killed 6 garden gnomes the bloke from the house went nuts saying He had 2 kids asleep in the house, didnt help my pissed up mate saying
"your lucky they,re not playing in the garden"....cue the police
3 points £50

It was everything you could want from a first - A coupe with a rear engine and rear wheel drive for doughnuts, a rev counter and sports steering wheel so you felt you were in a sports car, and a 1.0 litre engine so you didn't actually go anywhere fast, but at least you could insure it.

Sadly couldn't insure it against the rust though........

1963 Mini Seven, complete with fibreglass covers where the structural sills should have been!! Kept it a year, and swapped it in for a 1965 Austin 1100 with a Cooper S engine, special metallic green paint and a vinyl roof - babe magnet in 1977!!

Had some nice news this week. My 1996 Peugeot 306TD, sold to a mate's mother-in-law for £600 with 150k on the clock was used on a scrappage deal for her new car last week. With 195k on the clock (original clutch and fuel pump!!) it fetched £2k under the scheme leaving her with a shiney new VW Fox. Now that's what I call a deal!!

Red Mk3 ford escort.
It was ace...until 1 week after me passing my test, some old bloke threw his renault estate at it and wrote it off!!

...and they say the young 'uns are the worst drivers!

Hmm, I was 17 he was 63 and he was the one that was looking round the footwell of his car for a casette whilst travelling downhill towards a junction!!
decided he'd try to replace the rear bumper of the escort into the back seats...and almost did it, my mum, little brother and the shopping stopped it from going any further!

First one I owned a MkIII Cortina 1600XL sunburst red rostyle wheels firestone semi slicks blue alloy Gabriel shocks all round, twin electric aerials, and what must have been the first onboard graphic equaliser with red leds on the dash in 1980:lol:
Plus twin 110 watt wipac hair raisers on the front and rectangular fogs underneath, as was the rally set up of the day.
Vast improvement on driving my Mum's renault 4 or the Daf 44 variomatic my Dad bought her she refused to get into:D

1973 VW Beetle 1200 (standard) FFW 805L. Powder blue with no extra's at all. Total vinyl interior and rubber floor covering which was good as the Lee Challenger crossplies it was on meant bugger all grip, so after you'd pee'd yourself negotiating a roundabout at 5 mph, you could hose it out :lol:. Also discovered it had concrete in the heater/sill channels whilst trying to work out why the heater didn't work. Probably long dead now but bizarrely I spotted another Beetle (looked like a 1300/1500) registered 2 digits off (FFW 803L) in Barnsley a couple of months ago. I do NOT really miss that car, it was crap but it taught me loads about oversteer.

A beautiful Vw polo, saloon. That bad boy in 'Mars red number 2' had it all. :pA massive 1043cc. 185 tyres- jees that was wide in 1991. Wheel arches, spoiler in contrasting black and a gear selector that i had to build up with washers so it wasn't like stirring porridge:lol: Combine that and a radio cassette pumping napalm death no wonder the chicks came running, or was that ran away:eh?:
Me and my best mate rocked. He had a blue shuvette, missing bumpers so his dad 'fabricated' some out of black guttering:lol:

Oh, I dunno, Rover kept the flame alive until they went under, it's weird their 75's and 200's/25's/MG ZR's seem fine but there are loads of gammy 400's/45's/MG ZS's around our patch yet the Honda Civic version seems immune. And have a look at the rear arches on any pre-2005 Mazda MX5, you WILL find metal maggot starting to have a nibble, honest. But yes, generally it's just not fair is it, fancy the kidz being brunged up not knowing the joys of sculpting aluminium mesh and Isopon P38 , garnished with a layer of Plastic Padding.

My mate had one of them. The heat exchange had gone sending fumes through the car. The heater takes its heat from the exhaust system, we arrived everywhere strangely giggly.

I had a 1000cc Mini, 1989 Racing Flame Red. I kept it standard and owned it for 2 years, suprised it survived as I didn't half abuse it! sold it for a 1.3i Mini which I wrote off in 3 weeks. The first Mini I had is still on the road, and is now highly modified, as Mini's should be - BL cut sooo many corners!

Im now on my 5th classic Mini, and collecting a BMW Mini tomorrow!:lol:

Auto in a Mini is not my cup-of-tea. But I love Mini's and that one looks ace. Looks to have been loved, but suspension seems to be sitting standard. Get som hi-lows on it (rear only usually all they need), negative camber 1.5° front arms, adjustable camber and toe rear brackets and Group A tie rods... then polybush any bushing you can get to - transforms the handling.

....he dropped his cassette on the floor and so bent down into the footwell to pick it up....whilst approaching a dangerous junction down hill in a 60 limit!

Mine was a 1996 306 D-Turbo in Miami Blue (5-Dr).... I absolutely loved it to start with, and actually it's just reminded me of a funny drive i had.....

I was 17 and I'd just passed my test and had to drive up to Stafford to do a Touring car race as the TC3 had not long come out, i was staying at Mr Dreschers house so had the trek back to his on the Saturday night having done some practise.

Dave Duggan was coming along too so i had to follow Craig in his 306 Cabriolet, and Dave in his slightly newer 306 D-Turbo, so there's 3 of us all in 306's - me having passed my test 1 week before......

Not sure if many of you know how Craig used to drive, but to say it was hard to keep up would be an understatment, Craig and Dave were literally flat out the whole way, over-taking cars here there and everywhere trying to out-do eachother so there's me desperately trying to keep up (as i didn't even know where i was going)!

It was fun though, and i made it safely in one piece amazingly, they were nutters and i think i gripped the steering wheel pretty tight all the way

Nice, looks like it's in good condition, I can't see any rust around the a panels or scuttle which is a very rare option on mini's.

You can't beat mini lights on a mini. Just make sure your insurance company knows about them.

Try Footman James for insurance, they'll cover me for £100 fully comp with unlimited miles. I am old though

used it to transport a motorcycle to race meetings back in 1978. Remember replacing the wings with fibre-glass items and digging around in the chassis channel to repair master cylinders. Also fitted oil, water volts gauges to it in front of the steering wheel. Got 40 miles from home on the way to Snetterton and my brother noticed the oil pressure at zero :woot:. Walked to farm to use a phone to summon help, no mobiles in 78. Dad turned up with gallon of oil and the origanal pressure switch. Journey continued.

If your driving is as bad as your spelling you'll be dead in a week. There is a reason why insurance for young lads is expensive - to make sure they don't get fast cars and kill people.

This was my 1st bought with my own money (I don't count the shitty Micra 1.0 I stole the keys from my mum on the day I passed my test and didn't give them back for a year!)

Ford Cortina Mk2 1300 Deluxe - bought in 1992 from widow of the original owner  - think it's still going! Clutch went 2 weeks after I bought it, driving through Bristol city centre.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/BX16VALVE/old%20cars/cortina4door.jpg

Then bought this 2 door Mk2 with a 1.6 low compression engine with even less compression than intended! Swapped the motor a few times, but best spec was a 90 thou overbore 711M blocked 1700cc with Emerald P3 cam and roller rockers to keep the top end in 1 piece! First car i ever crashed....it's now white and fitted with a V8 :woot:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/BX16VALVE/old%20cars/Cortina2door.jpg

Then went VW for a few years (Mk1 Golf GTI, Passat GL5), then Citroen (BX 16V, ZX 1.8 Furio, Xsara VTS)

i was a biker to start with (16 to 21)
so my first car was a robin reliant
bought for 200 of a mad old man
bought it home in a horse box that my farmer mate had. it just fitted with half inch to spare all round . it was ace. more room than a mini good for getting freaky in the back of it to . you could drop the back seats it was like a small van.
ragged it . they drift a treat. but never rolled it. 2 wheels was regular thing though.
had three in a row in the end they were mint. many funny times.had one that did 97 mph.( downhill screaming) very very scary.http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:IN3KBg6Kk0B2EM:http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/97-reliant-robin.jpg (http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/97-reliant-robin.jpg&imgrefurl=http://blogs.nature.com/brianclegg/2008/08/&usg=__v1c4qOsz_EPLFfQpoEONrYLY8SE=&h=305&w=440&sz=44&hl=en&start=13&sig2=j1j9JaRS8aXwTeCr3b2RWQ&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=IN3KBg6Kk0B2EM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drobin%2Breliant%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26 sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7ACAW_enGB345%26biw%3D1345%26b ih%3D574%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=Qy9GTPPaNZCRjAfMwLW2Bw)
then i got my car license and got a 205 diesel. also great but not qiute as funny. it did run on veg oil though 55p a litre ...60mpg:woot:

I passed my test in december and up until now i havent got myself a car. But on friday i should be picking up my first car. Its Y reg polo 1.4 mpi 60K on the clock in metallic blue. Needs a little bit of work. Its due for a cambelt change and the bonnet needs a respray other than that is in good condition. Totally chuffed to have my own car.

Personally I agree with everything said about young drivers being unexperianced and doing silly things. Ive had 2 friends killed in car accidents. The most recent was just before christmas, then having to follow his the funeral cortege on one of my driving lessons was certainly a chilling reminder and when ever i pass where the crash happened i get a chill down my spine. Also recently I was involved in a car crash with a young unexperianced driver where i was a passenger. We had been out for the day to the beach and i didnt really want to go as I didnt trust her driving. But i didnt want to leave the two girls who i went with by themselves just incase something happened (crash, puncher etc) On the way back my worst fears became a reality....

So yea slow down and dont be nutters guys leave the mad driving to the toy cars thats what i do...

Really looking forward to my car now :)

Well my first car, wasn't all mine, so my first shared car, was a white c-plate Metro (like all metro's, it squealed in first gear). When this went to get fixed at the local metro specialist, he loaned us his car (my mate was told when we should have it back but didn't tell me). When we took it back (late), our car was in the car park opposite with smashed windows, flat tyres, engine missing (I think). The mechanic had gotten "annoyed" with us let's say. Anyway, instead of pressing charges, he bought us a replacement x or y reg fiesta which we had for about a year.

My first car of my own, is my current car, which is a Focus 1.9TDi estate, which I bought (am still buying at an extortionate rate - thank you Welcome Finance) a month or so after passing my driving test, on my tenth attempt (well, my 8th really, forgot my licence for two of them).

aaaah, I detect a wind up going on, or a total knob, either ways...

Anyhows, first vehicle was a Kawasaki AR125 that got stolen twice!

Then a Metro 1.0 in Denim Metallic Blue, apart from the primer black front wings.
Subaru Justy Van (that went everywhere)
VW Jetta
Renault 19td
Toyota Carina
Ford Sierra 1.8 (was mint till the ex started driving)
Renault 21 estate
Toyota Town Ace
Peugot 405 estate
Renault Espace
Chrysler Voyager

inbetween

Honda CB400 Wet Dream
Kawasaki GPZ500
and some old Honda I rebuilt

Ah, I love the AR125, especially the green one! That actually makes my first car, my BMW C1 then, which is a bike not a car.

My first car was a '98 R Fiesta Chicane in panther black, which I bought in 2001 from the local Aston Martin dealership. Cost me £120 a month to insure and £4k to buy.

In order......

1000cc Mini - got it for my 16th birthday and spent 18 months on a complete nut and bolt rebuild to be ready when I passed my test.

1.1 Fiesta Popular Plus - bought this when I stuffed the Mini, and sold it when the Mini was rebuilt

1.6 Talbot Alpine - one of those go anywhere cars lol. Built like a tank, handled like an ocean going tanker.

1.6i Ford Orion Ghia - lovely motor - XR3i with a boot

1.6GTi Peugeot 205 - nutter job - made of metal thinner than baked bean tins - cost a fortune when the head gasket went.

216i Rover- You can tell when I met the ex - the toys went and had to have a "sensible car".

1.4 Astra - boring as hell.

2.0 Di Vectra - great car - huge boot. Had it for 7 years and 120000 miles and never skipped a beat.

1.9TDi Fabia VRS - yes, once the ex went I got my toys back

Anyway you have to do a written exam as part of the driving test and you could never have read, let alone understood the questions.

If you can't spell an insult then plese don't bother to use one and it's "take" like cake and not "tak" like yak.

Not sure what my first car will be, just passed my test last thursday. Second time lucky and at 26 it was about time. Insurance will play a big part of what I buy as I'm quite skint.

My first car was a Blue Mini 1000, bought it when I was only 15 to do up for when I could drive. Sat rusting on my parents driveway for a year before we scrapped it, lol. My first car after passing my test was a citreon AX 1.4 TRS in silver... bought for £400 and was a minter! Ended up changing the interior from an AX GT that I found in a scrap yard, and changing the carbs for the AX GT twin choke webbers. Awesome car, best car I've ever had... so much fun!

"Two gradually developing main traditions regarding the use of troll can be discerned. In the first tradition, the troll is large, brutish and a direct descendant from the Norse jötnar. They are often described as ugly or having beastly features like tusks or cyclopic eyes. This is the tradition which has come to dominate fairy tales and legends"

Sorry to upset you bodgit, but he's not a geordie. I come from that area (Sunderland, so I'm a mackem). He's either so stupid that he can't use proper english, has used mobile phones so much to text speak to people that all the radiation coming from his phone has addled his brain, or given him some form of arthritis in his fingers (so many jokes to be had there but I'm not going to be the one to lower the tone, ok I will, there was this man....)

At best, he has a learning disability (trying to think of the word where you see words all wrong but just can't think of it at the mo').

I simply think he's a tit looking for attention.
