I've been looking at buying a new spade. I've got a 'Wilkinson-Sword' spade currently, it's good for deep digging as it's quite narrow (it's not a trench model though). It's not too hot at shovelling though, due to its narrow nature.

I've looked at one of these......

It's a 'Titchmarsh' branded spade, the model name is 'Digging Spade', allthough I have seen it called a 'Bulldog-Spade'?

RRP is high - £38.29 - but it's a high quality item that should last a lifetime.

What spade experience do you have, and could anyone recommend a better spade?

Thanks,

Matthew E.

PS – I’ll not be parting with my current spade, as I still like it - see below,

If your after a spade that is good at shovelling you should get a spade with a large angle on it as your tall. If the spade only has a small angle on it you will be leaning over alot which will put straign on your back. I should know ive dug myself into some holes before now. I recomend you go to your local spade shop and try a few models out see how they feel.

Have you tried these out Stu?

They're very comfortable to hold due to the oversized handle and are made of quite a strong material too for extra durability.

You also get a free bucket :woot:

How do you keep it so clean Stu? Do you spend all your non racing weekends polishing your spade?

That looks nice, but - how strong is the handle?
I've had spade frustrations related to riveted handles in the past. The problem I've had is where the plastic handle splits where the rivet hole has made it weak -
