Dam the ESC’s are huge with these brushless systems!!! Anyway…

Installed the Novak system into the BX, wanted to do this a little different from the norm, this started by changing all the wires to black, don’t try this at home kids! I’m sure that’s the warranty gone but hey, the ‘king of bling’ doesn’t have yellow, blue and orange wires in his car huh.

Other quick mod, shorten the switch wires can’t stand loads of extra looped wires everywhere.

Only thing I’ve not changed yet is the red wire to the huge power cap thingy, might get the black marker pen out on that one.

Uploaded a few shots…

Is that a 4.5R? Don't you think it is too much for off road?

No it's a 6.5.

Looks crap, well done.

Yup! You'd think not but it does, well I thought it did, nah it does.

That power cap thing is silly size as well, I think the guys at Novak do it to test us, 'try fitting that bugga in'.

Oh and motor is 6.5 Ian is right... for once.

the further the cap is from the ESC, the bigger it gets.

Sloted can in a 6.5R? Nice!! Where did you get it?

I like to support my local hobby store, I just don't have one 'local to me'... so losipartshouse helped out, oops soz

If it goes tits up it will be money wasted (well hard to sort out anyway), so best to buy local, if you can, I think I ordered mine one Friday night half cut... I guess it's new the slotted can then? Must be that Novak are using these on the whole range now maybe?

Bit of a brushless newbie here, but even if it was a 4.5 turn couldn't you just turn down the throttle trim on the Tx so it doesn't give you full whack?

Why do people recommend a 6.5 for off-road anyway?

Thanks.

I took advice from a Novak sponsored driver; I’m no expert and it’s a lot of money to spend so I asked before buying, I'm sure they'd know what's best (you'd think).

Did the Novak team driver say anything specific about torque, acceleration or punch differences between the 4.5 and 6.5?

I don't know much (if anything) about velociti brushless setups (or other brushless setups for that matter), but if there is a difference in grunt/punch from standing still...or just plain old acceleration whilst rolling and running...and the 4.5 offers more (in these respects) than the 6.5...then I could understand could this could end up in skidding, wheelies etc and just too much power whilst on the go.

As far as I can gather though, it's all about top end and I don't see why a Tx trim couldn't sort this out? This of course assumes that there is no difference in punch, torque or acceleration between a 4.5 and 6.5.

The 4.5 is designed as a touring car motor (loads of grip) so it will be insane in a buggy and alot more punchy than a 6.5. I run a 5.5 in my XX4 which is to much for it on most tracks. That red wire on the power cap is realy offending me Bathy:) will there be anymore vids this year.

It's annoying me as well haha

Not easy to change without messing up the heatwrap around the tiny 'POWER CAP' I really am thinking of using a black marker pen on it. In an ideal world I'd change all the other little wires to black but ummm that's too much like hard work.

Videos for nat's 2007?... guess it would be wude not to huh.

Thanks for the answer...it does clear things up for me.

Get a black marker pen to it already! :)

Novak are moving over to slotted cans and sintered rotors in ALL motors. Just to point out, sintered rotors WILL NOT be allowed at the indoor finals!

It's a good plan Millzy, oh and you need to order (from the KO online store) some fluorescent pink wire and kit yours out, that would be ace!

I'm pretty sure a normal sized one would fit in easy, but I've got on order one of them KO stumpy ones (KO PROPO PDS-2413 ICS), thought I'd give it a try!

In your absence Lee I’ve added some pictures showing you how a brushless system ‘should’ be installed :D

I did it like this.. I now have easy acsess to the motor screws so changing pinion is no longer an issue..
