View Full Version : Carbon fibre interference

After todays racing, it seems the amount of carbon fibre in the bj4 is giving off interference to the new AMB handout transponders.
I had missed about 5 laps through a race, and found my transponder was only giving out half it's signal, whereas out of the car it was giving 100%.
where are people mounting their tranponders? currently ive got it in the middle of the body shell on the roof.
I had to move it back to below the wing to make it continue counting.
any advice?
Paul, you could try making a little lexan mount on the lower chassis so it only has to pass through one chassis form, not the topdeck and lower chassis.

on the BJ the bug in the roof is above the only things that could really screw up an amb signal, the motor and speedo. Put it anywhere but the roof and you should be fine. Where does the mighty Rich mount his?
The S4 mounts the bug over the cells and we have no trouble.

This was a HUGE problem in France at the Euros 2 years ago, only on the BJ4's that had just come out. In the end the organisers made a little trellis and suspended the loop above the track.
Noe sure what else to advise, you either need the signal to go outside the edge of the chassis, or in the wing as you say.

Ive had mixed expiriences which leads me to believe that the loop placement, as well as the condition/charge in the transponders has to do with the amount of scoring errors. The best idea is a lexan mount on the lower deck, if possible. If its the original car, in front of the cells seems to be a good place, and on the WE, there is a ton of room, haha.

LOL :D
Assuming thats me ( :o ) I've had the bug in the front window on all my BJ4's, never had a problem with laps counting. Now I've moved my speedo in front of the motor I was going to try mounting it where the speedo was to the left of the spur to lower the CG a bit.

Paul,
Craig had ezacly the same prob as you. In the final he mounted it on the rear wing and it still didnt count the majority of his laps :o.
How can anyone explain that? Could it be a weak signal thats not being helped with a car that its cf content is high.

It's spreaded to my b4 now, how gay is that. I'm convinced its the clubs gear.. i'll know for sure at tiv.
Paul, if other people are having the same issue, it could be a few things, as you said, the AMB system automaticaly adjusts Gain for the loop, so the next thing I would look at is the bugs, are they new, and are they charging correctly......
