yeah, check the diff is in the right way round. Also maybe replace the lock nut incase the nylon is worn. Or thread lock it a tiny bit

+1 for big red's suggestion (Diff in the wrong way round) but also check that the thrust race under the screw head is assembled correctly and is free moving to allow the diff screw to rotate freely in the LH outdrive.

If the threadlock isn't working, it's time to change the nut for a new one, as previously mentioned the nylon is no longer gripping the screw.

You're sure it's not the slipper clutch slipping? Does it sound like a bark or a whineing noise?

yes it does sound like that

also thighten the diff up very tight. I had to tighten mine until i physically couldn;t turn the screw any more in order for the slipper to function before the diff.

Must say though, the diff is probably the smoothest of any car i have owned. I expected the diff balls to be cheese, but it is smoother than my old B4.

i have done that in the past and put some thread lock down the drive cups to nut . but will take the screw out and do it right this time ,and how should the slipper be set up???? as the car is all over the place and driving crap

use a new nylock nut in the diff. Add a bit of threadlock to the screw to be safe and rebuild as per manual. tighten the diff right up until it is VERY hard to tighten the screw any more.

rebuild the car. Start with the slipper fairly loose and tighten a quarter turn each time until the slipper only whines for a few feet under hard acceleration (on a high grip surface). This will help prevent the car wheelying too much (asuming you have some lead in the front!)

what size is the nut ? what that from been full tighten?. do i have to take the diff out of the gearbox ?????

jim76

check the manual for nut size, i'm guessing standard M3 nut off the top of my head.

I would advise taking the diff out of the car and rebuilding it from scratch. probably turn over the diff plates if it has been slipping and they are badly grooved.

Diff screw should be on the left hand side (motor side), and the nut on the right hand side (slipper side), nut is a 2.5m nyloc.

No use putting the threadlock on after the nut has been tightened. Its designed to sit in the threads between the nut and the bolt itself.

As has been said, yes, get a new nyloc nut and rebuild the diff carefully as per the manual.

screw on the right and side i had problem with the diff before i sent it back to ansmann and in the maual its on the right and side

if the nut is slacking off, that is a sign of the screw on the wrong side, if you study the manual correctly, the diff gets flipped over, but they don't mention it. On the picture (pic 11 page 6) if you look at the diff, on the right side, you can see the nut holder slightly protruding from the diff outdrive.

My screw is on the left, and apart from a little settlement, it hasn't budged.

the nuts on the left side ansmann set the diff up as the diff was broken when i got the car . the screw on the right side spur gear side ?????

as i said before are you looking at the car from thefront or the rear ???

DCM

ffs mate, the screw SHOULD be on the left, the nut on the right, simple as that, you can argue till your blue in the face.

Nut on the spur side, screw head on the motor connector side.

doesnt matter who built it the diff can be placed in the car ether way, but the way dcm is telling you is best, if you dont want it to come loose, why do you ask for advice then not take it,no would people get on at ya,

thanks for the help dcm . do i need to take the diff out of the gearbox ?

DCM
11-09-2009, 12:49 PM
take out the gearbox, pull it apart, turn diff round, put back together, fit in car, check diff setting, run it, re-check, and as long as the nut and screw are ok, should be fine. Ball Diff's are not 'fit and forget' items, and do require regular maintenance, and keeping an eye on.

READ THE DIFF SET UP THREAD

jim76
11-09-2009, 05:43 PM
as i said previously in the thread. make sure diff is 100% tight, then tighten the slipper 1/4 turn each time and test to see if it still slips.

please don't make people repeat things 3-4 times, that's why thay lose patience with you.
