In about 3 practice/race nights (4-5 runs each night), I've killed 2 spur gears. I never went thru spur gears like this in either of my previous 501s. Initial gear mesh was as spot on as I think is appropriate. The only thing I can think if is the motor slide mount moved a little bit. Anyone else having issues lately?

Onto the 3rd spur...

hmmmmmmmm - nope. My 511 never had any problem like this? Sorry I can't help more with that, do you have any photos / what sort of damage is being done?

You need to use tamiya threadlock on the 3 motor clamp screws(2.5mm heads) as they vibrate loose and the motor moves out of mesh, caught mine before it did the spur:)

Only a chewed up spur gear, but not flat-spotted and consistent drivetrain noise! Like I said, I have a feeling I just did not tighten the three motor slide screws tight enough on both occasions causing the pinion to slide away from the spur and slipping over the top of the spur gear teeth.

The first spur that was chewed was the original Tamiya 91T and the last one was the 3Racing blue, delrin 91T. I have one more 3Racing spur left and will be my last... the slipper pads fit in there like shit... the hex on the spur is larger than the pad. Is one more durable than the other?... I dunno.

Hmmm, loctite... I didn't think of it but yeah, why not right? I loctite'd the front and rear bulkheads to the chassis, so why not these! Thanks pugs.

No probs mate, just remember to use a strengh of loctite you can break off if needs be, thats why I use the tamiya threadlock;)

3 racing spurs are junk, you are lucky if they are round when new

That too! Good call!

All is well with my pinion/spur mesh. Loctite has kept everything in place and quiet. :wub
