As prompted by several peeps, here is the official guide to glueing Losi studs onto 2WD rims in such a way as to allow the car to fit in "the box"

Losi Red Studs, Losi insert and B4 wheel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Thumbsharris/PhonePicture110.jpg
Turn the tyre inside out to expose the beads.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Thumbsharris/PhonePicture111.jpg
Cut the bead off on one side of the tyre. This side will be the become the outside of the tyre when you fit them. Make this the side without writing on.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Thumbsharris/PhonePicture117.jpg
Now return the tyre to have the inside in. Fit the insert. Your tyre should look as this pic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Thumbsharris/PhonePicture121.jpg
Fit the tyre and insert to the wheel. At this point the inside bead should be left overhanging the wheel (as shown) .DO NOT glue this side of the tyre in this position. You are doing this in order to pull the outside bead toward the centre of the wheel.

Apply rubber bands to the tyre to hold the bead in place. Now apply the tyre glue and allow to dry.

Finally, seat the inside bead into the wheel as normal and glue tyre in place. Allow glue to dry and job done;)

Good job you did that Craig, otherwise I would have glued mine straight up and then stuggled to get them in the box :wtf:

Why is it always a pain in the arse with tyres for Tiverton though? We should all be made to run ribs :p

Erm.
Does this not mean the tyre is being cut and shut?

I know it's only cutting but it is modifying the tyre...

Has someone checked with Worsley for a ruling before you waste cash on tyres?

and also lots of finger gluing to said tyre.....

Lee if you follow Craigs way your car will fit in the box, if you just glue the tyres up they won't, as the over-hang is too much.

No as you are not altering the carcase of the tyre only the bead, which you sometimes had to do with ballistics.

Can't see a problem really, since the Schumacher tyres are regularly cut to fit also.

The rules are "No cut and shut" which means, cutting of tyre and reglueing, we are not reglueing tire to tire.

What we are doing is cutting the bead and glueing to wheel. Many of us do this all the time, the only difference being this time is we are pushing the tire back before glueing.... I personally can't see a problem, but it all depends who and how the rules are interpretted.

Is Phil Truman about, he's the best person to ask for a final answer.

Its definatley not cutting and shutting, its just glueing up a tyre slightly different to usual. im sure it will be fine

I think you are picking peanuts out of poo!!:D You all know what cutting & shunting means! Trimming a tire bead is not the same! You all should have a handbook!?!

Not really picking peanuts from poo :D
Thought it would be best to clarify. It costs nothing to find out!

E-mail from Paul Worsley.

Hi Adam,

Rule 23.10 states :-
Front or Rear tyres constructed by 'cutting and shutting' are not allowed.

This is interpreted as a tyre (or different tyres) that have been cut then 'shutted' back together using glue.
If the bead of the tyre is being cut to fit the wheel, then this is OK as you are not making a different type of tyre which necessitates parts of a tyre being glued together.

The beads of tyres are often trimmed to allow a better fit to the wheel.

Hope this clarifies the situation.
All the best,

Paul Worsley (Chairman, BRCA Off-Road)
PP. Phill Truman (Tech. Officer, BRCA Off-Road).

Just so we’re clear last year I ran both the wider and thinner options of the cut and shuts last year in 2wd, the wider option which I think is approx the width of a 4wd front (like we run this year). When I ran the wider cut and shut my B4 only just made it into the box, it slid down the sides so was within a mm or two of fitting.

So for the sake of practically nothing (you have to cut the bead to fit AE wheels anyway), you might as well glue it as Craig suggests and so save yourself potential hassle!
