Just come back from a good fun race. :)
We started out with 7 teams and 7 Ansmann truck kits. The race consisted of building the kit and then completing 400 laps of the AMC Langenfeld dirt track. First to complete 400 laps wins.
The trucks were built completely stock (apart from bearings) with gearing left up to the teams on the kit motor. The first truck was finished after 47 minutes(!) and started turning laps. Second and third teams completed the build after 58 and 61 minutes. The others followed shortly after.
The trucks held up great! My teams truck finished second. We had no breakages! Not even the plastic shocks had leaked or anything. We were all expecting total carnage and at least the t-plate to break or the diff to go gritty but none of it happened. The car came off the track after 400 laps and the only thing wrong with it were the tyres which were worn, but after 400 laps on rock hard dirt we were surprised they had held up as well as they did!
As mentioned the trucks were box stock apart from the bearings. We did go and glue the ball ends in though.
The other teams didn't have many issues either. I think there was a broken C hub on one team and a wishbone here or there but nothing major. Some teams had geared too harshly and blew up the kit motor which was then exchanged.
All in all a really fun format and the trucks were insane considering the price!
Can't wait for our hopefully upcoming indoor endurance challenge using the MadRat
Will post pics as soon as I find some!

The trucks are no better or worse. You won't be able to convert your MadRat as the truck has way longer wishbones and I think a longer chassis as well.
They drove really well and were easy right out of the box.

Nope we use allsorts. Ansmann are based in Nuremberg, which is about as far from here as it would be to England ;)
We have Ansmann cars for people wanting to have a go before buying into the hobby. They are really good for the price.

i wouldn't recommend an endurance race running madrats as the kit shocks are terrible and repeatedly pop off. You won't notice the problem with the trucks as the shell protects them, but any roll with a madrat and you will lose a shock. Maybe the contest should be to see who gets the most laps before losing all the shocks!
But seriously, apart from the shocks and the weak t-plate issue the rest of the car is fine. It sounds like a more sturdy moulding for the t-plate is in the pipeline so hopefully that will resolve that issue. But anyone looking at getting a madrat should definitely factor in a pair of second hand B4 shocks for around £30-40. Ansmann do their own alloy shocks for about £10 per pair, but i couldn't comment on their quality.
And Ryan, you won't need any of those alloy parts. Save your money and put it towards some shocks or a steel t-plate from paulmay

We thought we would be getting through at least one T-plate too after reading things on here but all 7 trucks lasted fine.
The shocks did pop open for some teams. I suppose the shell does go some way to protecting the shocks but we used a drop of superglue on our shock caps and they were fine.
The race format was totally excellent and we are looking forward to the next endurance race. As long as you have at least 4 ppl per team the cost is ok too. We paid around about 22 pounds each in a 4 man team for the entry fee including the kit which was ok considering the club made a bit of profit on the cars. We had bought 15 kits in total for the race and ended up with 8 to sell. The kits we ran with all "dispersed" among the racers.
Can't wait for the next one :woot:
