How much diff grease do most people use when building their ball differentials?

Just enough to cover the the balls, gear and drive plates or do you fill it up so that the are little or no air gaps between the plates?

Does it make a significant difference to things like performance, drag or even diffs losening?

Just enough silicone grease to cover the balls. More than that and it swiftly flings off, and depending on the diff design you can actually over-pack the diff assembly and it won't tighten down correctly. Used to have this problem with the Yokomo BC.

The thrust bearing should be well packed with black grease.

i put a spot of grease in each ball hole and then insert balls, this is just enough to cover the balls really. loads of good grease in the thrust race and on the thrust race screw shaft(not threads). i also sand the back of the diff plate to roughen it, also do this to metal outdrives too, to try and stop any slip
