when we were at Batley a few weeks ago, my son used one of the club transponders. It was quite large (but he managed ok on that car).
Both he and I are building better faster cars now. Space in these cars is limited.
Jimmy (club member, from what I witnessed he is well known to you all) showed us his car, and he said he had bought and installed his own transponder. It was v much smaller (and of course lighter).
2 Q's
1). Where does one buy such a thing ? I have done a search on Modelsport and there is no such thing.
2). How does the club pc / timing system know who you are if you have one of these personal devices in your car ? When Jimmy is racing around, how do they know it's him ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

personal transponders can be bought from amb or mrt the amb ones have a unique id number where as mrt ones have 2either 10 or 20 preinstalled numbers that you can pick from. Diane knows when you go over the timing loop if you have given your transponder number before you race hope this answers you questions ...... stuart

The personal transponders are from 50-100pounds, depending on the make. Find out what is compatable at your club. Each pt has its own code, this is programmed into the lap computer and will be set to correspond with your names.
Hope that helps to start with.

Quotes are scary. Lowest I have seen is £80. MRT. Don't know. Backing away from this now. £80 = serious money. Reticent.

SIMPLE ! if your wealthy and like the easy life (ie: fit and forget), Buy a PT.
If however you have better things to do with your cash (like me LOL:D ), use the club handouts:thumbsup:

Yeah, but if the club hand-outs will fit. Will have a think. No point rushing into anything........

How are these things powered ?
Do they have an internal battery or do they somehow take power from the car ?

last MRT one I saw for sale was £40 brand new never used

AMBrc seem to be hovering around the £50-55 mark at the moment or buy brand new from HK for £62

If you're just getting started in the sport you'd be much better putting that money to things like lipo or brushless :)

What cars are you building, you should be able to get a handout in pretty much anything ;)

all you will need is a hole in the wing for the transponder to clip onto if there is no space inside the car, thats where I ran mine before I got a pt
