While driving my 511, I barely tapped the wall and a ballstud broke inside the hub. I've heard the screws and ballstuds on the 511 are "weaker" than on the 501...

Was wondering who or where can I get better/stronger replacements? Also, what size are they?

TIA!

As far as I know the 501 and 511 use the same screws and fixings. The thread is standard 3mm but the balls are an odd size, being larger than the other makes. I converted to HotBodies D4 ballstuds which have the same thread and use standard size ball cups (Associated, ect). If you search the forum there's the part numbers for the two packs you need to convert the car.

The 511 uses some bright shiny aluminium ballstuds which are weaker than the old 501 versions, I sheared one off while threading it into the castor blocks!!

I use the Tamiya 5x8mm hard hex head connectors everywhere, much stronger and still the same size etc. Only difference is to add a 1mm washer under each to replicate the actual position of the kit ones, as the hard hex heads sit closer to the actual screw thread, if that makes sense?

I've also purchased the HARD hex head ball connectors after a kit part worked it's way loose and sheared.

Anyway... More to the point: I've not had a problem since with the newly purchased ones. (The kit parts appear to be a slightly different colour and have a shine.) So would recommend you try those too.

The part no is: op-969 or tamiya 53969 5x8mm hard hex head ball connector, just got this off the pack I owe DaveG28:woot: and like he says you need to add a 1mm spacer to get them to the same height.
