This really starts to freak me out.

A week ago AVG blocked oOple because of a MDAC ActiveX exploit and today
I get the following :

- No popup boxes when clicking on an username or Thread Tools
- I had no cursor when typing a message and when I tried to send it
the forum stated I didn't type anything.

I had this both in IE8 and Firefox 3 on XP and indeed had the same now in Firefox on Ubuntu ( Linux ) until I cleared my cache as well.

There is definatly an IFramer running and I'm not stating this just to say something , I've been in IT for 17 years now.

Can anybody notify Jimmy or an moderator to have a look here ?

Erik

Weird ?! never had any problems with this site before....

I had it on Saturday, but now it has stopped. Proxy servers didn't have an issue with the site at work and trust me if there was something here they'd find it.

Anyone else noticed the sites looks to have been upgraded? icons look different on the front page so that might have been why it froze?

From what i can make out this is malware that the site has been infected with... possibly trying to link people to another site (possibly porn etc)

I have noticed that usually on a Saturday / sunday this site gets attacked with spam bots linking to porn sites

Macs get viruses, there just int enough people bothered to write them. Modern macs are pritty much the same as a PC internally. They will get round to attacking macs, look at the iPhone, thats gonna get interesting when someone dodgy gets the code.

Ah, the good old Mac Vs PC debate rears its head again...

I've had no problems either at home (on a Linux box or my Vista laptop) or at work (but seeing as I work for the MOD that's probably no indication of it being secure at all :woot:).

Could it be malware that has "been and gone" and some people have been unfortunate to be on here at the time and downloaded it (not through choice though)?

That second video was brilliant!

We've got Mac's for specific purposes at work due to security accreditations etc as it's easier to get for them. Come to think of it, we're still using BBC Micros for some applications :woot: (and no, I'm not joking!)

I got the avg warning on my laptop on Saturday and it hasn't come up sence, however my laptop and desktop have both now got viruses on them. I am unable to go onto any antivirus websites e.g avg, avast or norton but I can get on all other websites, other things like freezing and Internet going off are also happening. Could this be a virus from oople?

jimmy
17-11-2009, 10:47 PM
no - but I'm familiar with that virus or a similar one. It spreads via removable drives / flash memory sticks etc. No idea where I got it from but my 'sticks' get stuffed in various computers at race meetings. It blocks you from downloading known anti-spyware like malware bytes or similar so you can't remove it easily. It's easy to know you're infected - just try going to malwarebytes website and if you can't it's a bit of a give away.

Microsoft do a tool to remove it - I will look for it and and upload it for you to download and run. Or if you can find somewhere to download something like malwarebytes that will also remove it.

There ya go fella - Its the Microsoft Malicious software removal tool - You can download it from the Microsoft site if you prefer but that's where I got this one from when I had the problems a few months ago. Once you've run it (think it might need a reboot) you should be able to go get some protection installed. I'd get malwarebytes and avast.

I have been on oople today via my works pc, and avast has now picked up a trojan 20/11/09 ? Although it removed the trojan it would suggest to me that the site IS still infected.

Got the same today on my work PC, running with McAfee. Trigged a full on system scan, and had to restart the laptop to get it too run quicker (it's a knackered laptop, damm the 4year policy!).... :(

I have avast on my computer as well. I also have this program called Computer Cleaner. But avast is awesome I recommend it to anyone having virus problems.

I can't see anything at all on here, kaspersky and avast report nothing at all - no files changed at all on my server since the 18th either. Any reported URL's for this virus? I wonder if it's cached from when you might have visited early in the week?

Sorry about this chaps

I've just had a script trying to run and about 5 virus warnings.

I would say there is a virus on the server so might be worth a look before google delist the site.

Im also getting the same problem using AVG too.

Also tried downloading the microsoft de-bug tool and i get a 404. Has the file been pulled off Jimmy?

Oh and for Malwarebytes - get it here

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

before anyone comes on and says "its not free" "its crap" and "is it trustworthy?" etc etc like last time i posted this up - yes its free, not its not crap and yes its 100% trustworthy !!!

Purchasing just gives you extended real time protection and backup, much like full versions of "free" anti virus
