Hi guys, a few good peeps on here that know there stuff so here goes. A few questions to pick your brains.

I bought a sony a300 last year with my ex, extra lens - tamron long range 8gb card , bag the whole lot for around £600 with warranty, started to use, got results i was happy with. However when i used the long lens, the colours n stuff seemed crap...... ANyways, we split up... No slr anymore lol.

Im now looking for one for me, and iv seen the Nikon D5000 from jessops.

http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Digital%20SLRs/products/Nikon/D5000%20%2018-55mm%20VR%20Lens-76137/Show.html Its not bad priced, has hd video capabilities, a moveable screen which would be a bonus for me, and overall seems a good piece of kit.

However there are no deals to be had at all, Jessops basically offered me a bag half price and that was it... Last time around i got loads of deals, free 8gb card, half price warranty, second lens for £100 etc ( even though it was crap ).

First of all is there any other cams to consider, im prob just gonna go for a std body and std lens, with a bag and card for the time being.

Is it worth me just buying the cam from then, and buying the card n bag elsewhere as they cant seem to do any discount ( maybe its time of year etc ) or i was asking the wrong person.

Is there any other shops to consider visiting in the Mancehster area. or places that you guys would reccommend.

Thanks

Col.

I have a Canon 450D which I'm very happy with.

I've only used the standard 18-55 lens so far, but I'm very impressed with what it can do.

That cam is within my budget, i just dont know whether its better or worse than the Nikon.

I liked the Nikon cos you can, move the screen everwhere on live view and even show people the live view screen, when taking the pic, ie flipped down.

Hmm deciosion decisions lol

So far Jessops seem to be the cheapest place for slr's but the accesories seem expensive, any other shope to reccommend.

Thanks

if you don't mind buying online or by phone i'd give camerabox a try

http://www.camerabox.co.uk/product1.asp?ProductName=Nikon-D5000-Digital-SLR-18-55mm-VR-Kit&ProductID=8468

i've used them as have many people i know & they have always been spot on

they have combo deals listed on the site or they will let you change it to suit your needs better

if you already know what you want then hit them up
if you are not sure & want to fiddle with things before you buy then go to a shop ( you can still buy from them if they're cheaper tho :))

in depth review here - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond5000/

looks like a good camera

Hmmm very very good review of the cam and far more in depth of some of the features.

That site makes the cam £20 more expensive, and delivery may be extra as well. Jessops seem to be hte cheapest at the mo.

Thanks so far guys,

:thumbsup:I bought my Nikon D60 from Jessops earlier in the year. You can haggle to a degree, few quid here and there on things like filters. Buy Sd cards off tinternet. Jessops often do half price lenses when bought with camera. Not all deals are advertised in store, check all bits you want/need and they will do a deal. Also get 20 free photos and good customer service- from my experience.

you also get sold cameras that have been out & have been returned if you are unlucky!
from what i gather its happened on more than a few occasions

just be sure when you get your camera from them that you check it thoroughly, make sure its new & has all the accesorys in the box :)
