Constant Slipper issues

Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone has had the constant same issue that I'm having.

I have gone through 9 slippers & spur gears.

I have spoken to few driver been very helpful but tarted scatching heads :wtf:

But the issue i did find the kit spring i had the coils thickness was thinner than the new one i had & also smaller softer to compress.

Anyway i have put the new spring in place & tighten up the slipper still having the issue
As for the kit setting it just slips like mad, so i was advised to tighten it up as far as it goes try this out. I did this & still slipped but lasted longer than normal.
This is whats happening it's taking the centre out of the spur melting because of the heat & slipping.

Just like to know if anyone had the same problem,because it's getting to the point where i just want to place it in the bin & burn the god dam thing.

It's been like this from purchase, i thought the problem went away for one day but has come back.

So you have changed the spring and also nipped the nut up as far as possible??
Was the 1st spring stiffer than the 1st?

You are making sure that when you nip the grub screw up you are putting threadlock on it and screwing it down onto the flat part of the slipper??

Hi Mate,

The old spring was softer & the new one was thicker coils/harder.
The old one the coils was thinner too.

But when fitted the spur could still turn by hand.

Yes the nut was fully tightened up & the car was undriveable lifting the car front end.
Lock tightened up & checked.

When it was fully tighten the car would wheelie & then started to feel nice after first minute.
Then started to slip,was stripping it's taking the centre out of the spur.
Today in the final spur was good for first few mins then started to slip & stripped again.

Oh if you like to know I'm only running 6.5t X12 motor which i thinking of changing to 7.5t too

Like you have said....something is seriously wrong. Contact Team-Durango direct, im sure that they will sort you out. Is there anybody that you know runs a Durango? You could swap slippers to make sure that its nothing to do with your Speedo settings or something daft like that??
It might mean that you have to get a full new slipper set, not sure how much that would cost but at least you wouldnt burn the car....Let us know what happens!!

Yes we have compared with few of the guys i run with,i have set mine to thier settings mine it so lose compared to theres. So i have to tighten mine up alot more.
As for talking to Durango much use as .........
Yeah looks that way buying new slipper etc but wow how expensive :thumbdown:
Rather annoying seeing this has ben like it from day one.

The only other problem i can think is I'm very aggressive with the trottle causing the problem. But seems more like thier manufact issue on the slipper.

played pit bitch today for a Durango and backed the slipper nut out 1.5 turns from kit to get a bit more slip and had no issues

grub screws haven't come loose that hold the bevel gear and gear input shaft together have they causing backlash in the transmission which may be hammering the clutch?

Yeah i think i got the old spur still post some pics up tomorrow.
I got the springs so i can show you difference on them.

You talking about the centre drive shafts onto the bevel gears?

Yep. the ones that go into the gearbox

Have you tried turning the diff washers round or even roughing them up with some Wet and Dry to try and stop the slip? You might have to be a touch smoother with the throttle though......ive never seen a Durango wheelie yeat apart from the promo vid.

I was at the meeting all day today and you never came across and asked.
If you don't ask we can't help.
Don't leave it till you get home and then spout off on forum's.
It's what the team are at the meetings for, to help out!

Surely common sense to come and ask???

Is the front diff install the rigth way?
Both wheels turning the same way?

Advice to remember which way to put them back in the car.
All the screws closing the diff cover (#310039) front and rear
should face down.

Might also try cleaning the plates and pads with alcohol, or even replacing the pads.
Post pics of the entire assembly, and the individual parts, if you can. It might help.

Nathan & the other guy cant remember his name know how much problems i have had. They was even scratching thier heads said to me tighten it right up. Still was stripping centres out?
Nathan W has been great help always helped me out with friendly approach too.
Thats why i put use much as cause you never responsed, so sorry if you didnt hear the conversation it wasnt directed just at you more the car too bit annoyed.

I will sand down the plates do you think i should also rough up the slippers too?

I will check everything else i had quick look last night all the drivetrain looked ok.

Will come see you Sunday Adam, because its very strange thats all.

I'm not sure when I was stood right next to you in the hall.
If you don't actually talk to me I can't respond (simples).:mad:

I'm guessing if it's munching the centre out of the spur gear, then the boss on the slipper clutch hub 310012 is too small in depth and the gear is not being allowed to spin on the hub properly. The pads are the only things that should engage the plates.

We can rule out spurs as they are moulded and don't change.

If you have a seized bearing on the layshaft, this could be giving you heat. Check the slipper assembly spins in the bulkheads without any drive shafts in.
Back off the 5 screws underneath the bulkheads and check the slipper assembly is lined up. If you've had a good old shunt and put the bulkheads out of alignment, this will be giving you heat issues.

From your first post though, the slipper hub seems to be at fault as tightening up the slipper seems to make no effect, so you are probably tightening the two hubs against each other rather than the hubs against the pads.

Like I said, I'll have a look on Sunday, just make sure you actually bring it across and not just mention it...:thumbsup:
