1.3mm and 1.4mm drill bits for your pistons

Hi,

many of you may have seen from some of the set up sheets on the TD website that the front and rear pistons are drilled.

I drill the front 2 hole pistons to 1.2mm and the rear 3 hole pistons to 1.4mm.

Loads of people ask where they can buy the drill bits from to do this so here you go:

thats where i got mine from,they are ok but arnt hight quality:woot:,just make sure you check them as some of them arnt straight,but they do the job:thumbsup:

Just to correct my post i use 2 hole pistons in the front drilled to 1.3mm not 1.2mm.

I just wonder if this mod is to suit the UK tracks, or more to compensate for the rubber boots on the shocks.

I tried to drill piston but didn't mesure any différence on track (La ferte Gaucher, dirt indoor : http://www.quartzrc.fr/pistes%20voiture.php?cat=piste interieure). There are some jumps since this picture:).

To compensate the rubber boot suck effect here is the solution I used :

if you make a hole in the boot, no point in having it on as muck can get in and you carnt see the damage its causing!

Yeh that will be fine.

using the boots is optional, just a neat feature of the car.

Must say im a big fan of them though. After running the car several times outdoors and indoors i went to refill my shocks and was amazed to see the oil was still completely clear!! Didnt bother refilling them after i seeing how clear the oil was.

As for drilling your pistons, all the team drivers here in the UK have done this and noted a big improvement on the track. The standars kit pistons give you too much pack which is no good on our bumpy tracks. Drilling the pistons makes the car ride the bumps better, reacts quicker and generates more grip.

Ive yet to note how bad the rubber boot suck effect is but one way to cure this maybe to put a few holes in using a very thin needle. This was you allow just enough air to get out whilst minimizing the chances of any dirt passing through the hole.
