Team Durango have released the first official word on their much anticipated 2WD buggy - the DEX210. Photos of an early-stages pre-production prototype have also been released on the Team Durango blog (http://www.team-durango.com/blog/?p=345). The car features some exquisite hand finished parts and pre-existing parts from other manufacturers. Despite the late announcement, the buggy will be racing tomorrow at the Petit race in Kent.

Team Durango:
Durango 2wd prototype breaks cover & will be raced at the “Petit” event in Kent this weekend.
The thinking behind the DEX210 is to be the first car where mid & rear motor mounting is possible from the same car, ensuring Durango owners can be sure to have the ideal layout whatever the track.
Private testing has already been carried out with various gearbox configurations & motor locations, but as always Durango like to test properly before finalising the design so off to the Petit race Gerd goes with his hand made car.

Good luck to Gerd with the project. Durango have obviously released a very competitive 4wd car (if Winter Racing is anythnig to go by) so I'm sure this 2wd will be the same

It's suppose to be like that. It's a favoured way of mounting staggers.

Who's driving it at the Petit then? :)

and the fact the rear of the batterys are unprotected underneath
the batteries sit on a Carbon plate chassis.....
Not exactly pretty, like the 410 though, is it..

I'm sure it'll be very good when it comes out, and I'd love one to go with my DEX410, but surely this "news" has only just popped up now, to take a bit of the attention from the new Schumacher 2wd, "here's our 2wd, oh, and you can see it tommorow"

I'm a abit baffled as to how the gear mesh is set. It looks like the motor and spur are both static. I've only looked at the pictures briefly and I'm sure I saw some hinges in the transmition. Can anyone with more time on thier hands and experience disecting the pre production photos throw me a bone? :bored:

lay shaft/slipper/spur moves, it rotates round the idler moving the spur away or to the pinion, doing that keeps the motor in the same posistion!

Looks like the layshaft pivots around the idler gear and swings up/down to set the mesh - then secured by the 2 screws on the opposide side to the spur.

I had a brief look and it looks like the layshaft can rock back and forward in an arc so it keeps gearbox meshed while moving the spur relative to the motor.

Im not a hater, I probibly going to get shot or frowned on for saying this but im more excited about the Schumacher 2wd :)
X-Factory have clearly set the standard for the 'New era' 2wd format / layout.
Good luck though Durango...

The DEX210 kinda reminds me of the AC S2 in its layout....and the S2 is RC porn as well :)
As I decide on the new Schumacher this is announced! Perfect timing and of course this looks incredible. Will have to wait till Schumacher releases details on their buggy now. But the gearbox design is great, wonder how it will handle...

Well I am glad to hear for that reason. I would be tempted with the Schuie, but the parts are so expensive in Australia compared to the TD parts.
Owning a 410 now, I am thrilled to hear that 2wd will be coming. I'll def pick one up as soon as the production version is out. But how long will that be...?

Well, if it takes as long as the 4wd, you might as well buy a Schumacher now. :woot:

any videos of it at the meeting?
I really like the look of this thing! Amazing engineering!
But I have a couple of questions:
-when you reverse the whole gearbox, then the motor will spin the wrong way? You'd need a 4 & 3 gear solution in order to "get the best of both worlds? Or am I missing something? (Is the motor and spur "reversed left/right" as well then?)
-and why not simply but ballast in the rear for more grip? It shouldn't have to be necessary to move the motor...

all this reversing the gearbox and putting the motor inside is old news! does nobody remember the FAB2000 conversion schumacher made for the cougar 2000 all those years ago????

Oh yes I do. Didn't work any good on bumpy swedish tracks though.

It wasn't made by Schumacher, it was a man called Mike Barton of Fabbix batteries and I think Craig Harris did the development.
