Here's a project I'd been "planning" since I was a little kid... Finally got it together for a gift to my bro who's moved to Hong Kong and thus to the dark side - touring cars...
The Big Bopper - quite possibly the coolest police car paint ever... And the roof wing - awesome. Trickiest part was getting the labels made up, but once I found a supplier that could do a one-off with a .psd I sent them it was pretty straightforward. I did all the stripes with (lots of) masking tape in various widths. Hassle!
I'ts hardly exact - missing 2 doors for starters... but I think it turned out well. Let me know what you think. Cheers!

Awesome and when I was in Hong Kong there was some great RC racing and shops around Mong Kok and Yau Mau Tei. Not bad in Wanchi either
Those were the days :(

yep - the infamous Kum Wah street near Mong Kok station. Enough rc shops to make your eyes water...
Unfort it seems there's close to no 1/10 EP off road racing scene in HK now - 1/10 Gas road and 1/10 Electric road seem to be huge though.
It was great visiting over xmas - we built up two identical "TA05 version 2" cars and raced "spec" againt each other at the amazing TRC track in Yuen Long. Fraternal rivalry at its best. So with identially tuned cars... I must admit that he's still faster. Hmm.:eh?:

Ty

Recently, I've been doing quite a few bodies with stripes - and doing it with lots and lots of masking tape (in many widths, mind).
Is there a better way? All this masking does seem to take forever.
I've been doing stripes so that the tape of each stripe overlaps the last stripe by an even 1mm. sometimes if it's got narrower curves, I use thinner tape (like 3mm) and fill in the void behind up the the previous stripe with more tape.
Any suggestions apprecaited - thanks! I'd thought about spray masks, etc, but wouldn't it be very tough to get the lines nice and perfectly straight? any tips about that?
Cheers,
Ty

Thanks, it was definitely fun to do - despite all the masking!
I think I'll consider basing all my cars' paint on this scheme as it's bright and easy to see on the track as well. Much easier to see than a scheme based on the flat black of Mad Max's interceptor in any case!
Cheers,
Ty

Looks really good, The lines look great.
You can buy liquid mask, you can brush, spray or sponge it on. I use a brush and it works really well.
I tend to draw the design down the out side and as long as your lines are straight there and you have a steady hand to use the craft knife (scalpal) to cut the liquid mask on the inside, they look clean and crisp with little risk of bleeding.

Awesome job. I'm a fan of the Hemi Cuda muscle car look.
One of my many projects is a Ford Mustang, but don't have any iconic paintjobs like that to copy.
