I know Bury is still going on, but i wanted to start the thread before i went away for the week. You are welcome to view the Oswestry website at
http://www.oswestryrcc.org.uk/
and see our dedicated National information page at
http://www.oswestryrcc.org.uk/National2007.htm
The club is really looking forward to hosting it's second National and we hope the weather will be as good (+32°C) as last year to make it a real Ozfest!

Only Caravans need to be registered. Tents do not. This is a condition of the contract we have with the show ground owners. I will amend the website when i get back..

Is it sunny over there? :(

12-06-2007, 07:23 PM
I still registered a week or two ago, even though its just my tent sleeping two occupants. it wasn't clear but id rather register unneceserily than not register when i should, so for the sake an email I did it... but nevermind.
Looking forward to it. I presume we'll be on the exact same section of grass as last year?

The permanent track is a bit of a boating lake, but the bank for the national is fine, we have had it fenced off now for some time and have been mowing it for the past 6 weeks.

SY11 4AS will get you very close. The showground does not have a postcode itself but a bit of googling has given this postcode for a number of surrounding buildings. You should be able to smell the burger van from anywhere inside this area so you should be OK.
not long to go now!.....

That envelope is mine ash - I am guilty.. but since it was in a massive box of rubbish about 500 times bigger in volume and weight - and considering I ate 100% off-site and didn't race, I produced barely any rubbish at all, apart from that envelope that I brought with someone elses spare parts in, :D
I know the hoards of people who actually did leave a lot of rubbish probably didn't have their name on it - but who's counting hey! :D love you man

Back to the meeting...
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, sorry about the weather on Sunday, but it could have been a lot worse based on the forecast from Friday. I think people preffered the track for this year? that seemed to be the general feedback.
Credit to Oz for a well organised meeting and a consistent grass track, usual congrats to the winners/star performers :)
Saturday was one of the rare times this year I've been at a big meeting and wished I was racing. Sunday however was one of the many this year that I was glad not to be!
Anyway, loads of pics from Sat to sort through but only a handful from yesterday. Sitting/crouching in wet grass and pointing a camera at low contrast balls of mud in poor light is no fun, so a limited gallery from Sunday is already on Photobucket (http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa41/perapi/Oz%204WD%20Nat%2007/).

Due to poor weather we had the same issue at the last York regional. It was agreed that the "fairest" way was to allow any completed finals results to stand and the rest from qualifying.
I think its a bit unfair too... when we did our final, the meeting hadn't been abandoned and the people who didn't run did it out of choice... this also means I broke my car for nothing...!
At York the other week we used the results from the finals that had been completed, and qualifying for the ones that couldn't be run (I think??)
Northy

But its simple, its in the BRCA rules that if it is abandoned part way through results go on qualifying.
If you want the rule changed propose it for discusion at the AGM.

If your asking why i was searching through rubbish was because we wanted to do as much recycling as possible. We didnt mind the people who put there rubbish by the bin it was the people who just left there rubbish in bags spread around the field.
In the end we almost filled the plastic recycling bin.

What's all this I hear our finals don't count from Sunday?
So I had my best final ever and finished 2nd from 6th place but might as well packed up and saved my car from this state? Who writes these rules, sort it out.
Surely any final that has run and is finished is complete, the day is done… how do other finals ahead of mine being canceled effect my final result, why the need to say its not fair on everyone else who didn’t get to race a final, I don’t get it… at all!
Phil Sleigh do I email you as drivers rep to ‘officially’ state my unhappiness at that decision? (If this is the officially decision and someone doesn’t intervene with some common sense)
What can I say, was a great weekend of racing somewhat tarnished from gay rules it seems, was working on a video not really in the right frame of mind now, stupid rules.

At drivers briefing, everyone is told that if the weather gets bad, it is FINALS that will suffer. To be fair to everyone you have to scrap the whole set of finals. If you manage to move up a final and finish first that is great, but if the next guy has his final cancelled he will not get the chance to do the same, so all results have to be null and void.
We wished we could have finished the finals but we had marshalls falling over and safety comes first.

I was at drivers briefing both days, but my understanding was that all finals would be canceled before starting them if the weather was bad.
Having started them the ones that completed must surely stand, why would they not? They happened, the days racing was completed and results achieved, I very much doubt that anyone in a ‘higher’ final is going to be annoyed at having to have their results as they qualified, they don’t lose anything and don’t gain anything, however finals that were run now potentially lose out.
It’s a ridiculous decision, where in any sport do you ever see a final result being ‘revoked’?
I shall be proposing a new rule, bit of a shocker I sure as it will be a sensible one.

Either the BRCA need to change the rules or they should reframe from using the word ‘Final’, never heard of anything so stupid in all my life, when I got to the rostrum for my ‘final’ that’s exactly what I thought it was, not a ‘maybe final if everyone else gets a go’. My result doesn’t affect people in any other final does it? So where is it unfair? It’s unfair on anyone who bettered themselves during their final.
People who didn't get a chance to run their finals don't lose or gain anything, to revoke a final that was run and completed is wrong and is absolutely unfair.
To quote the words ‘fair for everyone’ in defense of this shambles is an insult to me and many others who completed their ‘final’, it's a joke.
Is it fair that I ran my final and got second but the poll man could have sat in his tent and during that race and now beats me, I think not.

not really dave, you know the rules before you race there available on brca site, everyone has the option to take a gamble not to race, i know in this instance i profited but same thing happened at southport a few years back and i didnt that time, im just supprised they ran so many finals before it was cancelled to be honest
..... Who writes these rules, sort it out.
It's drivers as BRCA members that write the rules, at the AGM. It's the place for discussion on this, and maybe a rule change if that is what is decided.
Remember that the BRCA is all the drivers as a collective - the comitee just use the rules that the BRCA vote for.
(What is the collective noun for a group of RC drivers?)
Personally I did 8th to 3rd in my final, so I lost out, but it's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Yes much higher, I can see that you could be annoyed at not getting the chance to improve your overall result but the weather can't be helped and you didn't lose any places did you?
The point I'm making is that finals that have been run don't affect where you (for example) finish overall do they? Anyone in a higher final at worst lose out on an 'opportunity' to do better, but again surely a final that has run and finished can stand as a result.
Why would the BRCA wish to revoke the result, we are here to race not gamble on the weather, a race which has been completed should stand as a result ‘final’.
Would you be annoyed if a final below you (people with a lower score on the day) was allowed to stand as a completed result, I see no reason why you would do really, but let me know if I'm missing something here?
also means i beat you AGAIN em ;), i took a gamble that finals would be called off as the rain didnt look like lifting and didnt fancy cleaning the car again.

Ummm god!
Down to the weather isn't it!
Keep in mind that I think you'd be more annoyed had you run your final and improved but had your race result revoked... trust me that's unfair.
If you read back to what I’m saying you’ll see that the point I am making is that at the moment the rules is leaning towards those racers who didn't get a chance to improve. I say that is unfair on people who have been able to run their final, the rule in my opinion should be adjusted to consider the fact that once a final has been completed it should stand as a result.
I still see no good reason why a completed final cannot stand as a result, no one is posting a good reason why they shouldn’t? Which again highlights the rule currently sucks.

Guys, the rules dictate what the committee "have" to do when these isues arrise. Doesn't make it right, i know.
Must admit, i did say to Si as we were clearing up that i did feel just a little sorry for those that had gone out and risked their kit only for it to be worthless.
My personal view is that i can't see any good reason not to count the finals that have been run. All it really needs i would think is for it to be proposed and seconded for the agm and you never know!!!
Qualifying rounds are a different matter, if a round is canceled during then the whole round should be scrubbed.
Fair play to the club, think the track was better than last year. A little "slow" overall for my own personal taste, but that's just me.
Good work on the early posting of the report Jimmy.:)

As soon as Rothers' fell over i think that was an indication it should have been abandoned, loads of people were sliding about when getting the cars.

While I was taking the pipe up after the race finished, I lost count of the number of times i slid and almost fell over, it was the right decision in the end!

Have you ever heard of Wales, and if so do you prefer England or Wales?
Yes I have, although I haven't had the chance to sample and compare the two countries. (Chris Long later explained to Paul that Wales would be alright if it wasn't for the Welsh).
your going to die long!!!
