Hi All,

Wanted to know if any of you are also experiencing problems with the drive pins and the CVD pins in the Durango?

3 owners I and myself have endless problems with all the pins in the buggy. The last race I attended, I did not finish 1 race due to the pins.

It is so bag, other racers are trashing us for racing the Durango, smart comments like: the new Durango DNF410, Durango pin chainsaw and ...

It is sad that such an expensive buggy, that is great in all the other aspects, was released with the poor quality pins !

I hope that this does not sink the Durango, like the Titanic .... one small problem brought the whole ship down.

The Durango dealer has saig that they have sent the info to the manufacturer but have not had any news.

So, there might be a solution by fitting other pins or parts, but I feel that I have paid premium price for the buggy and expect premium parts !

I hope Team Durango are going to do something about this ASAP...?

DNF racer.

Been racing mine for weeks. Had no issues at all.

Could it be that the lack of slip of the gear diffs is the reason for this? The torque has nowhere else to go when the slipper is set too tight (for the pins in this case)...

Use 2 set screws for each pin. Apply threadlock in the threads of the bushing, and to each set screw.
Check and replace bent or damaged pins regularly. No more problems.

Thanks for the idea's.

I would like Adam (TD) to reply on this issue. How many people are complaining?, what are they doing about it? Will they be making an upgrade available? Will we receive it for free? When am I getting it?

- Lastly, would it be possible to send the car back for a refund?

Adam please reply.

Hi Werner
On the Team Durango blog we added a section on how to 'bulletproof' your cvd's.
Mine have been built since I got the car in september and I've not re-built them.
We've not heard from your distributor about these issues so we can't comment there.
In my honest opinion most of the CVD's I have seen haven't been built very well.
The one's I've rebuilt for people suddenly 'cure' the problem goes ???

As for re-funding a car this would be down to your model shop and distributor.
But we have not re-funded anyone's purchase in the uk.

I would suggest checking the blog for the tip on building the cvd's!
It's how I built my cvd's on my HB and other car's I've had and I've not had any cvd's come undone or break.

Thank you for the reply.

-Could you please advise how many people have contacted you regarding the pin problem?

-Also, what about the from C hub. A slight hit on the front wheel and the bearings move inward. The inner shoulder in the C hub is to small. What are the plans for that?

-You have been kind and answerd, but you need to look at the TRF buggy. We need pins that are the same. Please advise your position on the pins, Are you releasing new stronger ones or not ?

Sorry, I do not understand your statement.
Does that mean you are releasing a revised deign on the C hubs and all CVD and Axle pins or not ? Is it even on the list for review ?

We are looking at the cvd's. The hubs we have had very few issues with.
Any new parts we decide to release will be aired first via team-Durango.com and other web resources like redrc and neobuggy.

I posted another thread on hear about pins but only the rear roll pins that hold the wheels in position. I think as with all new products you will have teething problems.
I think TD should have used hardened pins instead of soft roll pins but things like that come with experience.

This is,as I said a new product and to be honest how many other manufacturers would you get new replacement parts for your car free of charge(as TD have done in some cases)?????.

For me this car is the dogs nuts and I am more than pleased with it.

To be honest, I've only had one pin come out of the CVD. and that (as Adam said with other cases) was down to it not being built properly. But to be honest they were all built as per kit instructions, and have all been fine. The one that came loose was just a case of the grub screw not being tightened on the pins 'flat' section. I pushed it back in and re-built properly and it was fine.

But well worth reading the blog.

I've had one issue, and that mirrors yours.....my fault! After a rebuild in the proper way its been fine. The car is awesome and I've no complaints!!

I find it strange that TD have placed an article of how to bullet proof your CVD's, if only 5 people have contacted them about it? (referring to Adam's post #8)

I might be complaining to much about this, but it is a big letdown paying premium and having problems with such a trivial part.

Adam, what are the chances of receiving replacement pins from TD?

I've seen a couple where the pin has sheared each end off, not just come loose, mine did it today and it's not down to being built incorrectly as the flat centre section was still held in by the grub screw.

We put a post on the blog telling people how to build their cvd's correctly.
This is the main problem ;)

Whilst the build tips on the Durango site will resolve 99% of issues, there are a few extra things to look out for:

1) Someone pointed out on another thread that there can be some metal swarf in the threads which stops the set-screw from screwing all the way in. This is what happened to mine, and after I ran an M3 bolt thru it a few times all was good.

2) When putting the first set-screw in, only do it up snug, then put the second one in and do it up a little tighter, then go back to the first one and fully tighten, then finally fully tighten the second one. By doing it this way the pin is supported correctly as it is locked in place, which keeps it from bending and possibly snapping after a while.

I lost 3 pins on my first outing with the car, mainly due to the issue 1, but once rebuilt they have been fine.

Any plans to update the kits with solid pins/extra set screws, and the correct way to install the pins in the manual? Might be a good idea.

I built mine per the Team-Durango.com blog and i never had any issues. My only complaint is that some of the pins did not have the little nudge so i had to file it my self but not a big deal.
