What is the smallest pinion you could have on a ZX-5?

Ok..on what motor? Planing to use a GTB 6,5,but the 5,5 or 4,5 looks interesting..:)

Not a kyosho expert, but aren't all the Japanese kits .6 pitch? (VERY close to 48dp but not quite)

Nah think they are getting away from that now.. kyosho used to be .7 module afaik and tamiya still is .6 module for a lot of their stuff..
cant imagine the new tamiya 4wd racer is gonna be .6 module, blumming hope not anyway.. dont think you would get a run out of those rubbish aluminium pinions they supply.

Well this is kind of to do with pitch, we have found by using a B4 78 tooth spur gear and B4 slipper pads you get true 48 dp pitch which equates to a quieter mesh pinion to spur and a slipper adjustment that is far easer to set up from the point of slip reference in the hand as you hold one rear wheel and the spur and in turn the other rear wheel.
No modifications are needed to use the Associated B4 parts and we have had two cars running with this mod for a few meetings now and a third just in the process of receiving the conversion and if you set the slipper nut as per kit this is a very good starting point and it works

I looked in the back of the manual to the zx-5 and it was written 17 teeth 48 pitch pinion....

Dont know about what constitutes true 48dp but the kyosho IS 48 dp as opposed to .7 or .6 module.. I think your B4 spur might be just a better quality design (kimbrough?) is all.
interesting though that it fits, good for spares then! ;)

Apparently Losi ones fit as long as you use the losi slipper pads aswell
