Hi guys, i am trying to find a perfect 4wd buggy for me and i really dont know much about them. I used to race nitro off roads such as the revo, jato, and a jammin crt so i am new to electrics. My only expirience with electrics is my rc18t with Mamba X. I want a buggy that i can have fun with and race when needed to. I will also be using a Mamba brushless on it. I have read all the reviews on this site but still cant make up my mind.

So far i like the hpi cylcone d4 and the Kyosho lazer zx-5, i dont really like belt drives like on the team losi's but thats couse i never used on.

btw awsome reviews :)

Lazers are going cheap second hand, spares are still easy to get and cheap compared to some others, nice car to drive, etc...... Cyclone D4 would possibly be a buy new job, has a lot of potential and looks a very nicely make car, (some advantage to buying new and building your own)spares seem reasonably priced as well, good looking car.

Which one would be better for a brusless?
also with my previous expirience with phi product i know that they will make a lot of hop ups for it but i wanna make sure that i wont regret buying one.

Also which is the most durable and has a clean set up? and is there an advantage to belt drive over shaft?

Belt drive is easier to drive consistantly, but shaft drive is more responsive, has less give in the transmission and should run abit cooler, but both drivetrains have their disadvantages.

belt drive being belts can break! more maintinance and can cause heat issues when the tension is wrong.

shaft drive issues i have found are broken gears with an incorrectly built slipper.. and thats about it.. maintinance is very good, runs cool and the cars are generally easier to work on.

from my own experience!

Despite many common preconceptions, a brushless motor and speedo will fit in any buggy - not alot of point in designing something that wont fit...) It's all a question of how you like your wires to look! I run a xx4 with belt drive and the only advantage that I can think of is that the belts "bend" or stretch a little when under large loads, making the car more controllable

Laser is a good car.
I might be wrong, but I don't think the mamba is BRCA legal. If that doesn't matter then I hear it's a great set-up:)

also from the sparse info i know about belt drives and shaft, i know that something getting ragged into the belt cog can be buggily fatal :(. like wires or worse : small pebles.

good luck with it anyhow mate, hope to see you some time. do you livein the u.k? as i have only recently (january) started buggy racing.:D

Col is right, a brushless system will fit in anything - uhmm, ok no he's wrong. The mamba max wont fit in a Tamiya 501X - the MTroniks system wont fit in a HB D4 - etc etc.. :D

The Mamba is a tight fit in the HB car but it will fit - you can file the chassis slightly to get an easier install. Should go in the lazer no problem I think.
The BJ4we might also be worth a look since it's one of the best supported shaft cars out there.

Plenty of room on the chassis too ;)

Actually Jimmy, a lad at our club has an Mtroniks Brushless setup in his HB D4, just thought you might like to know ;)

I like the bj4we but the price is a little high. What do you guys think is the best 4wd that is cheaper than the bj4we and so that the mamba fits in it?

btw i might also wait for the AE 4wd buggy to come out, since i really like my rc18t lol
