Macnum (upgrades)

I recently purchased a RTR Ansmann Macnum for £70; it’s supposedly for my son, who's 7, so speed is not of the essence yet!! But longevity is, i have also just got hold of a brand new kit for £42, so i have some spares ready and waiting, and a better looking body shell too, but what else do you think will help me? i have seen the carbon T-pieces, but what about replacing the shocks, i have seen the ones from the XT-Pro but they are about £52 for front and rear shocks, are there any cheaper alternatives, and what sizes will i need?

First thing to get is a set of ball bearings!

After that there is nothing really essential to get it going. If he's just pootling about with the standard motor he shouldn't be breaking much really. If you're worried about the shocks use a drop of superglue on the caps once built. Mine lasted a 400 lap race that way and were still nice at the end of it.

If you are wanting Alloy shocks you could get the 75mm and 95mm of these Ansmann (http://www.jespares.com/electric-models?page=shop.browse&category_id=1256) ones. They are not pro race spec but not bad for a quick hop-up.

Apart from that if it's just Blasting around then you are all set :)

Weak points are front and rear hubs and sometimes the T plate but for messing about I'd probably stick to the £2.99 plastic hubs and not dish out £35 per pair for the alloy parts. Must admit though I have the front hubs on my X-Pro and they are superb quality.

One is already built and running, is it worth making the other one using new bearings, and shifting over the radio gear, or shall i just hammer this one, and maybe use the other for spares if i need too, or just wait til the RTR dies and then build the other one with the bearings and new shocks??

Putting the bearings in the RTR should take you all of 20 minutes and a 2mm hex driver. don't run it on the bushings unless you want to throw all moving parts away after 5-6 charges...

I'd leave the kit as it is and just upgrade the RTR.

Might well have a go, even do the shocks at the same time, mind you this will be the first RC dismantling and assembling i would have done! :confused: Lol
