Mad Rat clutch, diff and shock help required!

I use my madrat for bashing!

I don't think I set up my clutch correctly, consequently I think the diff is goosed.

1. How do you set up the clutch correctly (still need wheelies though!)

2. What's the quickest way to rebuild the diff? (silicone grease right?)

3. Any decent shock oil alternatives? (3in1, wd40, 15w40 etc..)

to set the slipper correctly, first you need to set the diff correctly!
lock the slipper up as tight as possible, then hold the spur gear and one wheel in one hand. With your other hand, try and turn the opposite wheel. It should be very hard to turn. If it turns easy it means your diff is slipping, so tighten a quarter turn and repeat until your diff barely slips.

Once that is done, then you can start backing off the slipper about half a turn at a time. repeat the above wheel turning process until the slipper starts to slip before the diff. Once you reach that point you can fine tune the slip by accelerating the car on the floor, but if you want wheelies then you will want the slipper on the tight side.

As for the shock on the madrat, they are seriously crap. no change of oil will make them better. Serious, look for some second hand B4 shocks or similar.

So the diff needs to be quite tight, and clutch needs to be a little less tight than the diff.

Just stripped the back off, cleaned out the box and greased the diff in 10 mins (didn't even take the wheels off!)
Shame the top shock mounts aren't 2mm further forward, would make it a little easier! Could the bottom (horizontal) brace of the shock mount be cut off to make access to the top gearbox mounts easier??
I suppose I could make some spacers to move the mount forward a bit.

Once you have the diff set right you will see a HUGE increase in performance... I was having the same prob as you but now I've got the diff to a decent setting the car is very very responsive. I still ahve my slipper really quite tight, but I love wheel spin and instant power :)

I was for a while considering replacing my X-Pro with the new Cougar SV from Schumachar but now I have learned the correct settings I'll stick with my Ansmann for 2wd :D ... I'm a happy chappy.

The X-Pro has been a great learning tool. I've been out of the RC scene for 20 years and so much has changed, I'm so glad I got this car, I've learned a lot about set up and car variations for different conditions..it's been outstanding.
