The Short Course Dilemma!

To go 4WD or not to go 4WD...that is the question :confused:

Is 2WD the SC purist and the way to go, or are the outright benefits of 4WD not to be ignored....what do you think people, as I'm very torn between a SC10 or a SCRT10

Trouble is, we all buy things 'for a bit of fun' then before you know it you are upgrading and hopping up for racing!!!!!!!!!!! I always do it!!! Which makes me wonder whether everyone will end up going 4WD, so should i just get a 4WD SC now rather than a 2WD.

Not sure it helps your decision Ross but I'm VERY impressed with the performance of my B4RS...never dreamed a 2WD 1/10 could handle anywhere near as good as it does!!

Hoping to run SC and 1/10 at Adur this summer....we already have a few interested and even with a rutted to hell track as it currently is (Soon to change, 10th. April work party, all welcome!!) then last Sunday we ran my B4 and Nick had a HPI Blitz SC running round and they were pretty impressive!

4wd i would say, preferably the SCRT10, but the HPI Blitz does handle a treat and thats 2wd :rolleyes:

Guys, I've been racing nitro for the last 4 years, firstly with truggies and buggies, and lately with the 4wd nitro'd SC8.
I've been racing a SC10 since xmas, and i'm having far more fun with it.

2wd requires more finesse as opposed to just mullering it with a 4wd nitro.

At the mo, finances means something has had to give, and for me it's the nitro taking a back seat, and 2wd short course all the way.

If finances improve, then I might even buy a 2wd buggy as i'm enjoying it that much.

I think in nitro racing people can get far too het up and occassionally temers flare. In the electric i'm finding far more chilled, and we have great banter on the rostrum - something you can't do in nitro. Short course means a little rubbing happens, and as opposed to open wheel racing, there is less chance of cars going off at angles and crashing.

I'm sure 4wd SC will be big, but for me at the mo, 2wd is more appealing as requires far more control on my part, and makes me feel like a better driver.

I've had a go with a Blitz and they handle pretty good, and with the new kit, you appear to be getting plenty for your money.
I only went SC10 as that was more popular at our track and thus obtaining parts easier. I also like the fact that more evenly matched cars means driver ability is more important.

Hear what you're saying Plod and I certainly agree that the grin factor is right there with these. As I said above then I'm still amazed at how well my B4 runs...

But the spec of that SCRT10 does just look so damn good.....4WD, Alloy chassis, 3 gear diffs.....I would happily give a SC10 a home but they are the same money....tough one....

Well after reading this thread if I had a choice I would go with the SCRT10 as 3 geared diffs and alloy chassis with protectors is they way to go!

The idea is they all get chucked in together,both 4WD and 2WD,it doesn`t matter about any results as long as everyone is enjoying themselves IMHO :D

Short course trucks are top fun.I put a 10.5 brushless system in mine and have not used any hop up parts at all.I race it against other SC trucks,we have been thrown in with the 2WD buggys at York,yes they destroyed us because we are a lot slower,but it doesn`t matter in the slightest.
Then i race it outdoors at The Nook against 1/8 nitro off roaders,again we don`t stand a chance,but the grin factor is very high.

They are brilliant for bashing too,a car for all seasons.2WD or 4WD,it doesn`t matter to me,it`s more about getting out with like minded people and having a good time :thumbsup:

Oh sure Twisty, agree with what you say abotu it all being about a bit of close quarters racing and all good fun, but you know how it is.....you do want it fairly equal to make it close and fun racing.....bit like racing a 2WD buggy against a 4WD buggy.....in equal terms then one will usually end up way faster than the other and so the challenge is a little unequal.....might have this debate with my local bunch and see if we can make a 'gentleman's agreement on what we will run!! SC10 looks great but the SCRT10 just looks to take it to another level.......

running the hyper 10 short course truck in with electric 8th and it can battle em 4wd is fantastic wish my drivimg was any good i might try 2wd one day. but the 4wd short course truck is brilliant you get away with a lot and can be heavey on the power. fun fun fun:thumbsup:

I've been having a blast with my SC10, racing has been stupidly close at times :)

The SCRT10, looks outstanding value, very difficult to resist, musts not order one myself ;)

I'd look at what the guys are running at your local track, if the majority are 2wd, your going to destroy them with the 4wd, which ever you choose you'll have more fun swapping paint in the thick of things!

Ok, we had fun the other week racing the buggies and short courses together for the final, but at our club, I don't think we want too much difference in performance.
I know one of the guys who says he's racing SC in the summer with us is saying he's going to rx wheels so he has plenty of choice, but I think it's not in the spirit of things.

Well we raced 3x 1/10 2WD Slashes,a 1/10 Losi SCT,a 1/16 Mini 4WD Slash,a couple of RC18`s and a T4 all in the same heat/final at York last night.
What a hoot,no rules,no restrictions,i think the "F" word got used quite a lot toO :blush:

On a serious note though,the thing is,
loads of people already have SCT`s,they are all mainly 2WD.The 4X4 Slash and these others mentioned are all brand new new[folks who already invested in 2WD might not want to re-invest in another seperate class just yet],times are tight,thats why there are no full heats of anything other than buggys/tourers,1/12 or 1/8 at the moment[generally speaking,those are the popular classes].The SCT class is ment to be fun[all scales/fuel types are actually fun]

If you start saying SC10`s only or only 10.5T motors ect,you are limiting peoples use,a 10.5 is not fast enough for a serious basher,meaning you would need 2X motors if you wanted to do both.

Limits and restrictions exclude people IMHO.
Things tend to go much better the less rules and more common sence/knowledge [shared] etc.

If people want to race to strict regulations[level playing field] they should be racing Regionals ,Nationals and even Internationals/Worlds etc.

People take club racing toO seriously,it`s where newbies make first contact,if there is folks throwing thier weight aroung at club days,it can put newbies off and stifel a good atmospere if you know what i mean.

So,i suggest club days for fun,there are not enough good numbers for exclusive SCT classes,so why not throw them in all together,the 2 and 4WD will split off as soon as enough start coming,then why not follow buggy style rules and have stock 540 and open/modified.

I would advise anyone to buy what they like,either 2WD or 4WD and go racing,any club worth thier salt will squeeze you in somwhere if they can and you will be grinning from ear to ear.

So far we seem to have a couple of slashes, a Blitz and seemingly a certain individual has gone for the SCRT10...tsk......I'm pretty sure I'll go for a SC10 I think as I already have a B4 and it's familiar territory.

I went for a SC10 in the end...up the 2WD purist :p

Can't wait to have a play with it....one of our lot has also bought a SCRT10....as per feedback on here then I'm not sure it will have too much impact when the flag drops and the racing begins :thumbsup:
