You can never have too much power, if you can control your left thumb;)

The 5.5 seems to be the option most go for in 4wd, but depending on your level of skill you may be quicker wth a 6.5.

If you can control your left index finger ;) hahaha

I have the LRP 6.5 in my car, and I only switch over to the 5.5 for the larger tracks.

I'm running a Novak GTB/4.5 in my BJ4 and I'm loving it but I am right on the limit of my Batt 4000 cells. Had to drop to 14/78 from 15 at the last meeting to guarantee the finish :( . Still plenty fast enough though :)

Regards,
Jon.

I run an LRP 5.5 in my BJ4 which is pretty spot on, I can't imagine really wanting a 6.5; just don't push the stick/trigger as far ;)

The Novak motors are slightly slower turn for turn compared to the LRP's so a 5.5 Novak is probably somewhere between an LRP 5.5 and 6.5, go for the 5.5 :)

Do you use the stock rotor (bounded) or the option one (sinterred) ?

Thanks

Are you sure??

Which rich? Rich Lowe. It is just that when ever i have seen his car he has been running a lrp x11 5.5 motor. Well he could have put a novak sintered rotor in it whithout out us all knowing.;)

NeilD

I was pitting with him on Sat and i'm 100% certain he runs LRP cans and rotors. My 5.5 died and we had a conversation about rotors this is why i'm asking.

Hi Simon, yes we made it to York in time although we were a little tired, Richards eyes had turned red he was that shattered!

Morphosis is Simon major who sprays my shells along with a few others. He's very quick, 3-4 day turnaround although i think he managed to spray Gregg Williams shell in 24 hours as he needed it for a National. His prices are superb too.

Lee, thanks for letting me have a go with your car as well.:)

4.5, you animal!!!

NeilD

I was running a borrowed 4.5 on Sat. as my 5.5 died, it was great fun just ask your dad!!

A BJ4 is an option they do seem to go well.:)

I wouldn`t swap mine for anything else on the market right now. The car is so easy to drive fast, it suits the smoother driver also.

I currently have a bj4we and would quite like to see how well a xx4 goes compared to it. So maybe a little temparary swap maybe in order, depending on how each of us drives.:)

Er, i think i'll take up Lee's generous offer, thanks though.

I would have to find a willing voulentier.:D But they would not be allowed to know how i have driven cars before. So they wouldn't know how the car COULD end up, I emphesize the word COULD as it COULD happen. But not for definate.:)

Sorry about the spelling

I ran my Novak sintered 5.5 in the S4 (same transmission as BJ4) for the first time today at Oswestry and I am very pleased with it. I started with 16/78 and ended with 18/78 I still think it might have pulled a slightly bigger gear on the really long straight but to be honest it was quick enough for me.

As I understand it a sintered rotor runs 2/3 pinions higher than a bonded rotor.

I almost fell asleep a couple of times at the York meeting lol :D

i run a 7.5, my lap times are as fast as (or faster) than anyone here at my track who runs a 5.5

my straights are about 25meters (70 foot?)

end of day its down to driver and tires....

Novak 5.5R with a sintered rotor upgrade. 16t Richardson Racing titanium pinion and 84t composite spur (stock AE), ceramic diff balls and ceramic bearings throughout.

Sintered rotor definitely gives more punch off the line and at mid-throttle -- typlical race conditions. Plus, it stops like a 10-cent crack whore picking up a penny with a little front finger push. Need to adjust the GTB to be 9% instead of 27% breaking.Top-end is perfectly in line, or faster with the R series motors. I have giant maxamps 5500 Lipo packs, so I get 20 min+ runtimes with all that hot motor. What I have to be especially careful about is balding my front tires too soon in the race. It's easy to do because the car just pulls and pulls. I might need to set my wing a little more agressively to conteract the front steerage. I'll be looking to upgrade the motor bearings to ceramic as soon as they're available -- LRP just announced them and I think the specs are the same for Novaks.

Couldn't be happier with the setup -- just have to drive consistently to optimize speed over uncontrollability.

Again, the sintered rotor is definitiely a cultured improvement for the 5.5R Novak. Your milage may vary. I can't imagine a faster motor in this car....

DX3R + digital HRC36965S Hitec servo, BJ4 carbon and alu steering kit, BJ4 center diffs; lundsford Ti everything.
