This year we decided to make an 'official' oOple area for talking about the BRCA 10th off road nationals - to make it easier for people to find information and find an archive of threads about the event from years gone by.
Feel free to post chat about Talywain National 2010 in here!

I have been asked by some of our fellow racers across the pond if, there will be live timing from UK nationals this year ???????????????? Anyone know if this is a possibility this year ?

The indoor finals, Neo all had it and it was great success ?? so.....

DaSloth
12-04-2010, 04:56 PM
It would be good to see, but i think its a bit more logistically difficult compared to the Neo. The Neo is based at a university so they probably have a very good internet connection on which to host it all.

not sure what sort of connection you'd get in a valley in wales and some of the other venues :)

It is something I have asked about, even about a live webcam trackside.
It is being looked into, but don't get your hopes up for this year, this will take some looking into.

18-04-2010, 06:59 PM
As far as I remember Pidge nailed 4WD in both the first and second A-final to take the overall with some super fecking ace driving in each! Was great to watch as he nailed that far side double 99% of the time and seemed to make loads of time up using that line.

What a brilliant day though, weather was really nice, driving was great to watch and the banter was on top form from all on the grassy slope! Poor Gaz Stanton and the "Stanton double" LOL!

Stanton's number 1 fan Belston was on top shouting form today lol!

Really enjoyed it today, was a credit to all the 1/10th offroad people as to how good it was just to come up and spectate :)

Top weekend fella's! Cheers to the Taly boys, great effort on your part

It was my first national and I thought I was going great guns...just a pity pretty much everyone else was going better than me!!! Really enjoyed it though, some great racing and even better racing to watch, stunning 2wd finals!

I must also say, to those who camped up there....that was proper hardcore camping...I was a lucky one and have my parents living 20 mins down the road, so changed my plan to camp and stayed with them instead...but I scraped ice of my car both mornings...I know it was proper freeeeezin up there, so that's true commitment for you :woot:

Can't wait for round 2 now...bring it on...and hope the temperatures get up, I'll def be camping there.

Go team Wales

TheReferee
19-04-2010, 02:40 PM
so starting my first full season as referee thought i would put my thoughts down

driving standards good to excellent

penalties a few

apologies several, gave a driver a stop go, went down the line saying car 6 stop go, got a reaction from a driver told him to stop, car complied told him to go, didn't shout as he was right in front of me, walked back to my position, only problem the driver i was talking to wasn't the one!, the correct driver heard me tell him to stop but didn't hear me say go. so he didn't. apologies to mr evison for that.

danny mcgee and grant williams, having decided to give danny a penalty, i confirmed with grant that he felt he had lost out and that i should apply the penalty, only problem is i asked grant in front of danny, which was obviously the wrong thing to do and put grant in an awkward position so apologies to grant and danny for that.

as danny pointed out at the time i should have told him what was happening and allow him to give the place up, as it was, the time penalty cost him two places rather than one. i accept that danny is correct and will attempt to do so in the future.

issues raised for me which all drivers need to think about. a couple of times drivers crashed and ended up in a better position so they waited and then went, one driver was going to be penalised his reasoning was he did not gain, my reasoning was he didn't lose and he should have done, however the penalties available to me are limited to a warning, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 lap and disqualify plus stop go as required, the problem with a stop go penalty in qualifying is once served you have lost that time and it cant be given back, so i prefer to give a time penalty which can be added or removed after i have considered the incident.

fair play awards from me, joint award for paul bradby. grant williams and dave gibson all three had an incident but waited and allowed the other driver back in front, or in grants case he let an extra one through just to be safe!!

thanks to the talywain crew for keeping me watered during the day

Fair play also to you John.
It's not easy trying to referee a national and I don't envy you one bit.

But respect to you for posting on here that you also learned from your experiences this weekend - it's far tougher to do that and something that perhaps a certain other national sport's referees could also learn to do:woot:

Thank you.

It was my first National this year too and i've got to say, apart from the 2 shock towers i broke in practice  it was a brilliant day, a little more strict than iam used to but still a great atmosphere  Even ended up winning my final, RESULT! :D

Roll on RHR, 6th reserve at the minute but fingers crossed.

Shaun...

I'll be at all of the nationals, if you need anything spares wise for the Cyber come and find me I have pretty much everything in my box

Shaun, was it the 4wd L final you were in? Not sure if it was your name I remember seeing on the results sheet?

...I could be completely wrong...so I apologise if I am...but if I'm right I couldn't help thinking, with your profile name on here, for the best part of the 5 minutes people were watching a welsh driver (aka...me) chasing a sheep around a field!!! :woot: :o

Couple of slow-mo clips from Tally. Unfortunately the quality through youtube is appauling :bored: . They're a bit repetitive, Jimmy has the better ones which will hopefully be included in his video

Oh that's fantastic! The kit designers will be loving that sort of footage, you can really see how the car behaves to the bumps etc.

Nice one. What camera did you use?

Hi there! Your series looks fantastic!

Are the races also open for other than brittish competitors? Where can you apply for attending a race?

I believe that it is open to anyone as long as they join the BRCA. I don't know if you'd get entry now as there are reserve lists for both classes.
more information on it is available under the 1:1oth Off Road link on www.BRCA.ORG

I totally enjoyed that race too...best fun of the day for me, and I hadn't thought of any of the "contact" as being anything more than just close racing! Top job I reckon  Roll on more fun next time!

If I was you I would contact Paul Worsley, the BRCA 1/10th Offroad Chairman.

I have asked the question about foreign drivers at events I run and have been told that they dont need a BRCA license...however they might need a governing licence from where they live.

Best bet is to email Paul to get confirmation from the big dawg!

I'm a foreign driver (Republic of Ireland) in the BRCA championship.
You do need a BRCA membership (for insurance purposes etc).
However, I believe that entry for this year championship closed om March 17th 2010 - so you may have to wait until next year.

as Cris said, I would definitely email Paul Worsley and get a definitive answer.

Just had the following email from the man in charge, Mr. Worsley :)

Regardless of any insurance requirements, the 1/10th. Off-Road Section has had the following rule in place for many years:-

Rule 5.1 Eligibility (to the National Championship) : All drivers who are BRCA members, (subject the entry numbers allowing).

Quite simply, this means that Section rules require that to compete in a 1/10th. Off-Road National event you have to be a BRCA member.
Foreign drivers are not excluded from the 1/10th Off-Road National events, but as the rules dictates they have to become a BRCA member.

Read also 'General Rules' Rule 2, Competitors.
General Rules take precedence over section rules.

My all time favourite rule is 'The Race Directors Decision Is Final'. It kind of winds you right up after you've read the full rule book and realise they are all pointless...
