I remembered that it was a Hunter, but couldn't remember the make.
It was something that was irritating me but I've found it here: http://www.vintagercweb.com/hunter_runner.html
There are some great pics of a restored optima too, brings back memories...

I thankfully got rid of my Hunter. I remember it had an idler gear that would wear out in after a few weeks of racing and make a nasty grating sound as you went round the track. If things got really bad, you had to drive in reverse to get any power!
Changed if for a tufnel/brass replacement eventually, but the car wasn't great , I don't hold any emotions for it. My Optima however... Still in the cupboard. Looking at the Optima restoration makes me want to make mine all clean and shiny again.

Mine was a Mardave Meteor. I bought it and all the electrics second hand from the model shop in Crossgates, Leeds. I had loads of fun with it then went 4WD with an Optima Mid Custom and then my beloved ProCat.

First car was a Tamiya Super Sabre.
Raced it at the local club "Canterbury Burners". Remember I had the spectacular option parts of Tamiya Pin Spike Tyres and a Parma Cyclone Stock motor in it.
Also remember going through several million plastic steering uprights and replacing them with some alloy ones. When I lost a steering arm I replaced it with some chicken wire I found in the field.
Don't think I was especially fast but loved racing from day one!
But what I am still unable to work is is how come I left the car in the garage fully assembled and when I went to find it 15 years later almost nothing was left apart from the rear gearbox? Are there alien mice that eat RC parts if they are left unsupervised?

My first was an AYK RX2000 1/12th scale, still got it. Buggies didn't exist back then. First buggy was a Sand Scorcher and still got it. First buggy for racing was a Frog, I wish I still had it as it was extensively upgraded but sold it to pay for a Scorpion. First 4wd was a Hotshot which was quickly dropped for the Optima.

Then i moved onto my b4 and now i finally have a bj4 and my b4 still.:) But somewhere along the line i managed to pick up a RC 18T and a RC12 L4.:wtf: :D

Haha, looks like a cougar to me.
got to be worth 99p though if no one else bids on it.
First RC car was a "Trial 12" made by some obscure Japanese company. Weighed the wrong side of 5lb and would break kerbstones with it's metal bumpers :o .
First proper RC car was a Hornet, which got replaced with an Optima. Since then I've had a Cat XLS which evolved into a ProCat. Then a Lazer ZXR. This eventually made way for a CAT 2000 EC, then a CAT 3000. Yokomo MX4 followed which was hastily replaced by a XX4. This eventually made way for a MR4BCS, and finally I now run a KMC ZX-5. I think I've got those in the right order.......
Along the way there's been a couple of XXX's, a Parma Pro 10, Mardave Ministock, Mardave Marauder, and now I race V12 bangers too :) .
And there you have 20 years of racing history!
Sosidge - Canterbury Burners - not so much a track, more a desolate field with a few ropes in ;)
I've still got one!!! The mighty Ninja :D I might run it in a vintage race this year if we organise one 'daaun saaarf'.
Im feeling all nostalgic now!
Mine was the legend that was the Tamiya Rough Rider!
Few others along the way that I can remember, Wild Willy, Optima, Mardave Marauder and Ministock, Hirobo Zerda (remember that one with the roll cage!), and the original Schumacher Cat. I remember at the time I was struggling to get 5 minutes out of the batteries to finish a race - hows times have changed!
Had a break for 20 years then and then got an Associated TC3 and now an Xray T2R and Yokomo MR4-BX.
Memories!

My first car at 10 was the Tamiya Madcap!
http://rc-off.com/sozai/raji/madcap.jpg
What a beast ;-) haha
Best thing was that the first day my Dad had finished building it he was trying to make sure it was ok and drove it straight into a kerb snapping the chassis!! I think that was the last time he ever held a handset, i had to show him how to do it from there on :D

It could actually look pretty pimp with some upgrades!

In at the deep end with a Cougar and some of the worst electrics available. Upgraded everything over the next two years except that car, which was damned near faultless!

My first car was a cen gx1 nitro touring car which i used to race around a car park a bit. Then i bought my tc4 which i used to race at wrexham model car club for a year. Then that christmas i was bought a mini lst. And about 3 or 4 weeks later i fell in love with offroad and i bought my b4. I then sorta raced that all year until september when i converted my tc4 into a tc4 ft which i never ran. So i ran my b4 though the winter until january when i bought chris longs mardave v12 off him and raced that a bit and raced my b4 inside. Then in march i bought my xx4 we now i just race my b4 and xx4.

I started attending club meetings with a Tamiya Mudblaster, I had the blackfoot and monsterbeetle shells for it too.
My first car was a 4wd, the Lazer ZX, I stuck with 4wd for a long while switching to the Procat and then when I went to 2wd bought the Cougar2 Team which I hated, I next bought a Traxxas TRX1 just before Woody won the national at Bury with one.

my first car, the Tamiya Falcon...
http://www.vintagercweb.com/falcon.html
I always remember the mabuchi 540 motor packing in on me, so i fitted a 22 turn motor into the car, bearing in mind i was still using a mechanical speed controller. Half way down the straight on the second lap, the speedo burst into flames, it looked AWESOME! bit of a mess mind....:o

From about 1986/7ish > Tamiya Grasshopper > Tamiya Hotshot > PB Mini Mustang (great car) > Schumacher Cat XL > Optima Mid LWB > Kyosho Ultima Pro > Kyosho Lazer ZXR > Associated RC10 B2 > Yokomo YZ10. Stopped racing about 92/93. Restarted 2004 with on road Pro4 then got back to proper cars in 2006 with Associated RC10B4 > Kyosho ZX5 > JConcepts BJ4WE.

My first was a Tamiya Super Champ, about 1982, I would have been about 11. Took me about 3 nights to build, I wouldn't let anyone give me a hand to build her.
I saved every RC kit I had until I gave up at about 18,The last kit I bought was the first Losi that came out. then when I moved to Aussie I stored them in my old boys shed.
He told me if I filled up his shed with junk he would throw it out.
Seven years later I return to New Zealand, and bugger me, The old boy had thrown them all out, at least 12 cars and all the gear that goes with them. (not to mention my extensive record collection)
Picked up a TA04 a few years ago, Didn't really excite me, Then on a whim I purchased a Desert Gator,Going off-road again bought back all the fun, Then got a little carried away, have been through about 30 RC's in the last couple of years, Even bought some to build, run once and then sell. Bought others 2nd hand and sold them without running them.

The first for me was a good old Tamiya Boomerang in '87.#
Raced it for two years, sold it for £15 at a car boot sale to some kid who was thrilled to bits when I told him it was an ex-racer that had some wins to it's credit.
He went away pestering his folks silly to buy it for him and they came back about half an hour later and stumped up the cash.
I'd already bought and built it's replacement, the fabulous Optima Mid Custom. All the locals at the club I raced at back in '89 were green when it whistled around the track during pre-season testing.
I remember one lad,he'd be around 14,who'd beaten me in most races, had a fully hopped-up Hotshot,Technigold motor and all the trimmings.
The Optima whipped his Hotshot's ass good style and I'd still not fully got the hang of it.
He threw a right hissy fit to his old man and virtually threw and booted the poor old Hotshot against every wall he could find:D :D .
First race of the new season, what's he turn up with?,yep a brand new shiny Optima Mid Custom SE with all the Option House bits as standard.
He really was a spoilt little sh!t.
I sold the Optima in 2001.I'd retired it(and myself) from racing in 1990 and just drove it for fun for 5 years and then put it away up the loft for 6 years.
A couple of months ago,the son(he's now 24!!)buys hisself a Yoko drifter to play with.He gave me a couple of goes with it and before you know it I'm hooked again.
A few weeks ago he comes home from work with a very, very thrashed, bashed 97% complete ancient Mardave Meteor and gives it to me.
I've still got my period Futaba radio gear,a couple of Parma Cyclone 27T motors and my old Novak speedo.
The rest as they say,is history.
Miggers:cool:
Mine was a Tamiya QD thundershot while my older brother had a boomarang(lucky git). Then when we started racing i had a 2nd hand cougar 2 then a cougar 2000 then a cougar 2000 95 team that got replaced by a losi xx and then we stoped. When we started up a few years ago i got a xxx bk of ebay then a xxx bk2 and then a b4.

First car for me was the Tamiya Lamborghini Cheetah, in 1982 I think, then in 85 got a Hornet, then the Hotshot which was the first car I raced, (just had to buy myself 2 of the new ones), then a Mardave Meteor, gold tub RC10, Pb Mini Mustang, then gave up for 5 years, till I got a Tamiya Egress, Cougar 2, BossCat Works, Cougar 2000, Cat 2000, XX, Pred '95, & 96, XXcr, XX4, Cat 3000 (worse car ever!), XX4 Worlds, XXX, then gave up again for 5 years, Yok BX, and 2 Hotshots:)
During all that had a few snorers, Tamyia TA02, Pred, Street Weapon, XXXS, now got a Cyclone Hara, and a XXXS E racer for when its wet.

My first car was a Tamiya Grasshopper. I got it for xmas and built it on boxing day.
I used the wrong screws to mount the motor and within 2 mins i had smoke coming out the back.
Not much has changed in the last 15-20 years

Hi mates!
I am new here from the states.
My first RC Car was Tamiya Super Champ. It is a slow heavy poke and easily broke parts when the rear parts touched solid materials (aka walls, sidewalks etc lol). My second car was a Blackfoot which I regret having (I really wanted a Supershot) but proud being one of the first owner of history in the making (the first true Monster Truck). My first proper race car was Kyosho Turbo Optima which I still have complete with the steel reinforced white fiber belt conversion. However, the first buggy I raced with was a very stock Tamiya Boomerang. It was supposed to be the TO but I was really nervous that I ended up disassembled my TO the night before the race :o
I was so nervous that I had forgotten that I could have pulled the Technigold motor from my Porsche 959 so I could at least compete instead of being the slowest car at the race :p:p:p:D
My last proper race car was Lazer ZX-R which I had to sell to a friend in college and when I was going to buy it back from him, he lost it during a farewell move :(:(
