cheap carbon fibre

Hi all,

I'm after a source of carbon fibre sheet, 3mm thick, and fairly cheap (New full size engines cost a bit... :( ) for the final version of the slim B4 (which is getting cleaned tonight for its fitst photo shoot)

Any ideas where one could source said carbon fibre? I've looked at Fibre Lyte, but it's a tad expensive... and Ebay only shows 1.5 mm thick or chavvy vinyl for Corsas... I'm in need of 2 A4 sized sheets, that should see me clear i reckon...

Any ideas guys?

duno but be careful, I bought an A4 sheet on ebay which said it was 100% pure cf - but it was about 95% fibreglass with a thin veneer of carbon on either side. Hayama or something it's called.. Avoid.

Carbon fibre and cheap just don't go together.

But be aware the listed sheets are single sided gloss, you need to contact them for a price if you want both sides glossy.

As Terry says cheap and Carbon Fibre just arnt good friends.

The ones that Terry has recomended are about the best there is and fibrelyte are good, the added bonus is that they can machine it for you as well.

carbon fibre is just expensive to buy, and just as expensive to machine, plain and simple.

I remember seeing some on the US ebay for a decent price. Usually 12x24 inch piece around 3mm thick for around £40.

The cheaper option is the CSC composite from Fibre-lyte or the really cheap option is the fibreglass sheet from Fibretech. The disadvantages are that it is heavier and not quite as stiff as carbon, 3mm is still pretty stiff though. The extra flex also means it's tougher than carbon with less chance of snapping in an accident.

Anybody aware of a place that will sell plates with a kick-up.
Never been able to accept the idea of bolt-on fronts to get a kick-up.

Theres a website called applegate that lists thousands of different companies. If you scroll down to the carbon fibre section theres loads of people that do carbon fibre. Definetley worth a look and maybe a email to some of them.

Ive had quite a few bits of them for my VX and the quality is superb.. im still waiting on a new centre console which should be on with soon..

When i was building up my X11 i got some cf from them so i could mount my speedo more neatly so it went over the prop shaft etc... i didnt end up using it as i ended up going for the small servo option instead (9551)..
