#9601 Top Shaft Question

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if/how you remove the gear from the layshaft?

Ben, you can now get the one piece versions (no seperate gear and shaft, plus no spacer to add either) from either X-Factory - (steel) XF5210 £8.19 or MIP (hard anodised alloy) - MIP09108 £8.89. Both are far better than the kit AE one (cheaper too) and will fit B4's, T4's, SC10's, X6's and X60's alike.....

Exactly the same mate, just machined from one piece and better quality than the latest chinese AE ones.....

was there ever a seperate gear from the layshaft or have they always been 1 piece?

Copying and pasting my post from the B4 Motor Mount Spacer / Longer Top Shaft (http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43532) thread. You can easily press the gear off using a vise.

I made a longer topshaft for my X-6 by taking the gear off the associated top shaft and putting it on a XX topshaft (part #LOSA3060). You need to drill a new hole in the shaft and cut a groove in the gear for a pin. I used green loctite (sleeve retainer) on the shaft & gear to make sure it didn't move.

You should be able to space out the motor & slipper plates 4mm without a longer top shaft.

Thinking out loud... I wonder if it's possible to move the gear on the stock AE topshaft to gain a little more length. Moving the gear 2mm shouldn't be a problem and will still leave enough length for the shaft to ride in the bearing.

Would the Losi A9930 fit in the B4/4.1 gearbox and is this any longer than the std AE item?

sorry, bit lost here. Why use the hydradrive shaft over the std one?

The reason, for using the longer Hydradrive shaft, is to allow the motor plate to be spaced away from the gearbox. The new V2 spring puts the slipper adjustment nut quite close to the end of the standard shaft, so no free space to move everything along a little. Spacing the motor plate will in turn center the motor with the center line of the car, to get a more even weight balance left to right.

Are there any modifications needed to fit the topshaft listed above?

I've one here but the V2 slipper plates don't fit. Shaft just slightly too big.

Got it sorted.

Shaft needed a slight rub with sand paper to get the plates to fit.
