sx2 batteries

What batteries are people running in their SX2?

Coming from a B44 I only have saddle packs. A friend from the club has lent me a stick pack - but its to high.

Also has anyone managed to run the sx2 with saddle packs? (I know the chassis is made for a stick pack).

i used saddles in my SX at first, they fit fine end to end as they are the same dimensions as the sticks. The SX is the same cell slot as the SX2, so again they should fit fine. You just need to ensure they are retained from sliding sideways

the saddles fit in position ok.. the problem I have is with the cables from the motor, whatever way I try they hit the belt.

Could anyone post a picture of their saddle setup? either here or to michael@mauton.co.uk

Would save me having to fork out for a new lipo !!! :thumbsup:

my motor wires are like an inch long so go no where near the belt...

assume he means speedo wires. they are a bit more of a pain with the saddles but if you route them carefully and possibly hold them in place with cable ties on the top deck etc then you should be able to keep them away from the belt

ah. I have deans connectors and mine touch the underside of the top deck which position the wires nicely to go between the belts

the problem I have is the battery wires.

a)going across from the speedo to the batteries, have to cross under belt/top deck.

b)the cable which links from one battery terminal to another.


Ive messed around with the cables tonight and a) seems to be better now. However the cable from terminal to terminal makes the bodyshell rise.

I would appreciate any pictures of both sections please. Thanks for any guidance.:)

lengthen the wires so the plug is past the belt, so the plugs are on top of the battery and secure the wire to the top deck with tie wraps. I also think your servo is wrong, the link between the servo arm and steering bellcrank should be more in line with the chassis.

It is, but only because he broke his Cat servo horn while racing last week and had to fit a B44 one to get going again!

First image shows topdown - I know I need to shorten the red/black cables at the top of the image. These are coming out of the speedcontrol and going to the two nearest terminals on the battery. They are directly under the top deck so they dont go near the belt - I am happy with these.

The 2nd and 3rd picture shows my issue. The two terminals are right next to each other and I need (I guess) to connect a very small piece of cable between the two with connectors. I have looked at the other posters pictures and it looks like his two cables come from the ESC into these 2 outside terminals?? so what/how are you connecting the two terminals that need to connect to each other?

just use two corally's and half a battery bar solder directly on top of corally.job done see picy below

Thinking about going back into the hobby after some years of absence and being totally clueless on Lipos (knowledge stopped at NIMH 3300 cells). Is the CAT SX2, really appealing to me btw, also designed to handle packs on each side or would cabeling be too cumbersome ?

With the "middle motor" in the SX2, wouldn't side by side packs be the best in weight destribution, like in the Kyosho or even be better ?

errr. the cat only takes 2 cells on the servo side if you use Nimh's. you wouldn't be able to put in saddles 1 each side of the car as the stick pack is over the centre line of the chassis I think. You'd be hard pushed to get another lipo in and they would be touching in the middle.

the cat is a rear motor car imo

Sorry, with "middle" I ment its position rather to the middle of the car's "center line" opposed to the Kyosho having it on one destinctive side. It is indeed in the classical term a bit more of a rear motor.

So a Lipo on each side wouldn't be a good option/idea in the SX2, right ? I have no clue, just thinking....I also do not like that sticks or two packs would look over the chassis in the front....so again just thinking.....have not made up my mind yet, if I step back into the hobby. I just ordered a Hyperion 720i charger to check old battries and so on and you know, going back into the hobby can happen rather quick :wub

a lipo each side would need to be tested and I'm sure Schumacher did that already... the car goes so well with them down the 1 side anyway so I'm not sure what you would achieve doing this. plus there would be wires everywhere...

First thing you would get is as said no overlapping batteries in the front (see pictures of the cars in the posts above, front edges of batteries overlapping the carbon chassis), unless the bottom cover is really rigid. At hobby tracks over here you can have the most stupid bumping into each other, also on jumps with cars from other classes.....I just do not like overlapping batteries, looking over the chassis parameters. But again all just thinking and I have no clue how cabeling would look like and the weight distribution really is with Lipos. Schumachers are rather seldom over here and I live from what I see in pictures and or read. Lots of folks over here driving Durangos, so I wil check out the other cars as well. Somehow I feel ready after racing TC drive shaft for years to test a belt 4WD car. Thx for trying to help !
