My Mondeo is a great cruising car, its not the new new style but the 05 type. The only downside is 43mpg max at 80mph, the upside is it will still do 40+ fully loaded.

who says the factory five can't tow? and it will definitly beat that little yellow piece of crap. Most american cars are good for one thing, drag racing. But i hate drag racing. So, i stay away from anything mustang or corvette like. This car however, was designed to look like a cobra, but it has racing suspension that is fully adjustable. AND... you can build it to weigh in at 1300 pounds.

If we're basing our opinions on what top gear tells us then we'll ignore the ford GT40 shall we? :P

Americans have no need for good handling fuel efficient cars. Corners dont exist over there and the fuel is cheap enough they dont need fuel efficiency, also, the size of the cars is immense, even the estates are humongous.
lazerboy
22-08-2007, 03:07 PM
good handling? no need. because we have speed limits. because we have stupid drivers. BUT! there are the few who have cars that can actually take a turn. and not only left ones.(i hate nascar). HAHA! and some of us actually complain about fuel prices! diesel is about $2.00 a gallon, so that's about 1.61 pounds. CHEAP! The factory five cars are kit cars. Specifically degigned to handle better and look the same as the originals. And also be cheaper. What exactly is an estate car?
Sorry but your post made no sense
lazerboy
22-08-2007, 03:16 PM
i'm sayng that the majority of the pop. needs not a good handling car, but rather one that hauls alot of sh*t. There is an exception though. If you saw myy thread titled real cars, you would understand what i'm talking about.
I'd have a factory five Awesoeme!!

YES!!!!! i want it capable of rock crawling, but set up to race. Some baja things are set up like b4's, but most are 4wd. if you google baja 1000, the baja website shows pics of this type of car. full scale, nothing over 20 grand (us) so that means i'm just looking for a platform. Basically what i would be doing is (in rc so you understand) Taking a shaft drive touring car, and making it into a 4wd buggy. Longer arms, shocks, axles, and that's about it.

that thought did cross my mind Mark!
But i think things have drifted slightly of topic! I have a ford diesel and it is rock solid, never skipped a beat.
I doubt you would go wrong with a Passat estate diesel either. The VW engines are pretty much the best diesels out there.

Mr north.. been told to tell you to look at a mondeo estate 2.0 turbo. The guy i work with has one.. and recoomended trying one. its a real nice car, loads of power n speed - we normally get about 500miles to a tank out of it also.
The mondeo is a great car, but with the new model just out, prices are going to fall through the floor real quick. Thought about the new vectra estate? Choice of 1.9tdci (superb motor), 2.0dci (o.k. if there's nowt else) or the almighty ass kicking 3.0tdci (sri only) with over 300lb ft torque. It'll pull your house, never mind a caravan...

The vectra's are tidy cars, never had one but worked for vauxhall for a bit. How about a beemer 3 series estate, Quality car, last forever and quite reasonable second hand value?

Agreed, we had an 03 2.0 diesel vectra in work for a year, an absolute disgrace of a car. Turbo lag measures in hours, interior was just junk, bits of rubberised plastic constanly coming off the steering wheel, appauling seats handled crap too.
As an ex Vauxhall employee I'd buy any ford over the equivilent vauxhall now :(
I also agree that the Mondeos inc the very older ones now are good cars and the very old ones a good bargain IMHO.

What a stupid comment (no suprise from you though)!!
The Americans have built one the best engines of the past 50 years - the Chevy LS1 V8. The new Corvette Z06 is one the best handling cars around too. Have a ride in a proper muscle car... then you'll see.
On topic... :D
Personally I know a lot of people who are very impressed by the VAG PD range of diesal engines. How about a VW Passat 1.9TDi? Or a Skoda Octavia if you're not bothered about the badge?
lazerboy
25-08-2007, 01:40 PM
HA!!!!! YOU THINK A CORVETTE HANDLES GOOD!!!! HAAA!!!! the corvette is a 1 and a half ton hunk of steel with a overly massive engine. And it needs it just to go 0-60 in 6 seconds. Muscle cars are even worse.
