Help for a Newbie?

Hello!

I'm looking to get into 10th Off Road next season.

I recently gave up 10th onroad (only raced indoors). I am currently racing 18th scale offroad, and will be contending in the winter national series.

I'll be buying a 2wd buggy for winter racing (carpet). I'll put a post in the relevant section for advice.

Basically, I'm not sure how the regional / national system works. Will I have to qualify to enter either of these?

Will I need to enter regionals before nationals?

Also, how does the F1,2,3,4,5 grading work?

f1 is the best rating and f5 is where everyone begins.

The chances are you wont be able to get into nationals on your first year you will proberly have to do a year of regionals to gain a higher license grade. The license grades go on percentages of where you finish overall in the regional championship. Most people are saying to garantee you a place in nationals you will need to be a f3 or f4 license grade at the minimum. You start off with a F5 license grade. As for entereing regionals you have to find which reagion you are in enter the regionals and the best 3 count.

For nationals and regionals there is also a nominted tyre for each event. that applys to the rear axle only.

I'm from Hereford, so I will look to do the Mid-West regionals for a season then. Possibly some south west ones too.

how many sets of rear tyres can you get through in one days racing?

your only alloud to race and score points in one reagion. im a mid westie we have some ace tracks and some ace people.

With tyres its basically one set of tyres a meeting unless its wet where greens will last for ever. At nationals some peopel like ot put new tyres on for finals.

At last someone from my neck of the woods!

I am in Ledbury, and am currently doing the 4wd regionals (Mid-West Region) this year, but due to the terrible weather have only managed to get to one meeting!

As Ashley says: you will start at F5 to begin with... I would stick with regionals until you are at least F3 grade, otherwise the nationals can be a little disheartening. Also there are plenty of great tracks to race on in mid-west without travelling massive distances.

Normally Dudley start winter indoor meetings on carpet/polished floor with jumps. You can easily get away with one set of tyres for a meeting indoors, and use this worn set for practice at the next meeting. I used a set for two meetings without problems on my B4 last year. The only tyres you really need are Schumacher Yellow and Green minispikes all round, as well as some BBG Green spikes (possibly all round, or rear only with schumey green minispikes on the front).

Not sure how popular the south-west meetings are, but it is regularly 50 drivers at mid-west regionals.

I'll look into the indoor series events then. I'll come along and watch a few of them, and enter some when I get all my stuff together.

I don't race at club level unfortunately, although I would love to, but everywhere is just slightly too far away for a weeknight evening to be honest.

There is Hereford Radio Car Club which race at Leominster at the sports ground, although that is 45 minutes across country to get to for me, as well as worcester, although they only race touring cars!

It would be ace to get something started for club racers closer to hereford itself, but this requires much work and a good location, plus the support of already local racers to support the new club.

If the hereford radio car club were actually in hereford, I would be more likely to go!

As both Mark and Ash have said, the local region to you is the Mid-West. :)

We've currently got 6 different tracks...

Coventry
Marston (Wolverhampton)
Stoke
Kidderminster
Dudley
Oswestry

This year has seen us visit a few of these twice, once for 2WD and again for 4WD.

We have one remaining Regional meeting, which is at Kidderminster on Sept. 30th. This is a 4WD round, but if you get your 2WD in time you're more than welcome to race.

As Mark said, Dudley normally run a winter series, holding one round per month between November and March. There is also the option of the outdoor "Astro-Masters" series that is jointly run by Kidderminster & Coventry. They normally alternate between clubs and run every 2 weeks (i think) The confirmed calendar for these should be out very soon.

Chris, i travelled to the mid west region from south west wales this season, as it is my first year back racing.
I don't think that you will find a better run region than this, with a good number of people (all helpful) and excellent tracks, so close to home!! I have had so much fun this year, that i will most definately be back for more next year:) .
Give it a go, you won't regret it!!

Hi Mark!

I asm currently racing micro's at the Hereford Club, every other friday. We also run 10th off roaders if there is enough to fill a heat. We usually get a couple, sometimes a few from Ludlow come along too.

There aren't many touring cars that race really.

None of those tracks seem that far away really, which is great news.

I'll see if I can get a buggy before the 30th Sept. If I don't manage it, I'll come along to watch anyway.

Unfortunately, I won't be racing it this weekend. Not sure if it will be here in time either.

I'm planning on coming over to watch for a bit, as long as the weather is decent enough.

Are there any details of a Midland Winter series yet? My internet connection at work is really poor at the moment, so I'm not online as much as usual.
