Nothing special, but i got kind of bored..so i took some parts that i have here in the hoby room  some spare chassis, arms, electronics so on..
See how low light i can get this "Thin4", no plans to race, since it is waaay to light..i hope :D
Heaviest of the El will be the Xerun60A sensor and Novak 380 - 8.5T
Rest will be mini servo
Hardcase CS 1900lipo can handle 114A burst..
I will use Orion 26mm lightweight El touring rims, with dito rally/pin from schumi

you'll need quite the mini servo, I'd think a low pro servo would be much better, even though you don't plan on racing it, you'll still want it to steer

now you should try to mount a durango body on this!

hey MR.P
Looks Like fun .
if your going to put a 1/10th motor . maybe a one cell lipo could do the trick .
ie : 4200mAh 3.7V Carbon LiPo battery, for 1/12-scale cars

Tried this myself, and using a 1 cell lipo with a 3.5t motor gives reasonable power in a car on the weight limit, but imo isn't worth the trouble.
If you go this route you need a receiver pack. - The 1/12 style regulators don't give enough oomph.
But the main drawback is the amount of time to charge as the lower voltage means you take a lot more out of the pack than with 2s. You can't get away with one battery unless you are running at a very large meeting.
A 2s micro pack like the one pictured in the car, or low capacity full size 2s pack such as orions 2400 which only weighs 150g is a better option. But it will depend on your local rules as to what you can do.

First test will be at GreenHill...i will order some 2200 45c packs...i will not run the 1/10th system in this...it was never made for it...but it can be done, i have done it...it looks good :)

Awesome Thomas :D
How about 4wd front tyres on the back to loose a little more weight ?
and for motor, how about using something like Dan has in his Chunk, its 400 size so can use stock 48dp pinions too
or maybe shorten the chassis, change the wishbones and call it a Micro !!

I think the cab needs to be bigger and go slightly further down the car.
get a 540 motor in there, I can easily kill a 380 or 400 motor in an 18th scale car.
I like to see these away from the norm ideas

How about lower towers, getting the front shocks on the rear and TC shocks on the front. Even lighter and lower CG :)

Jupp, that's my buddys XXX-CR with it's sides cut of. It shall be said that this was run with regular race gear, although I don't think he ever weighted up to legal weight. Due to the cutaway sides, the flex caused extreme grip, so it would have become his wet race chassis, had he ever continued to use it.
Very cool project you got, so keep going!!

Thanks guys... My dream is a RebelB4 , but il be making my new Thin4.1 this weekend
RebelB4 - what would that be?
Btw I myself tried 4 cells NIMH and a 3,5 turn (in an X-6) a couple of seasons ago, before we had lipo... it was clear to me already then that a light car on astro is awesome!!!
Could you show us step-by-step how you make that body next time?

Thomas, you should check out some stuff called "3M DP490", it's a bit like epoxy but more similar to carbon or graphite. Bonds really well and is very strong, very cool stuff! You can easily dremel it afterwards! Std. epoxy I find bonds less good, and it's not very good to dremel off when cured (too soft).
Olivier Langlet also uses this stuff, that's where I got the tip.
There's an übercool 3M dispenser for it also, with a "spiral mixturing solution"! Never seen the likes of it!

Short update...took the Thin4.1 to a weight...
1484 grams without a transponder :)
whats going on here?
I thought the whole idea was to get this car down as light as possible.
now im pretty sure my standard b4 weighs much less than what you have at 1484grams. I remember adding at least 40grams to make min weight.
And I think your car is too front biased. Need more weight on rear, just my thoughts anyway. Do you know the weight distribution?
Thomas P
13-10-2010, 01:58 PM
Yepp, that was the idea..but since i got my feelings for racing again, that car ended.
The car still have a lot weight on rear wheels..
If id use regular electronics this car will be way below weight limit :)
