Having fried the speedo and motor the other week we're cautiously getting Daniels 410 back to race pace. Running SP 6.5 with 22 tooth pinion to give the gearing @ 9.77 (data sheet recommends 9.2 - 10) .: ok?
With a 5 minute run the motor temp is 77 deg C, is this too hot? (Maplin IR thermometer N92FX currently half price @ £20)
Currently there's only one hole in the front of the body shell over the motor, if I open the rear facing hole I'll get an airflow over the motor and drop the temp some more?
Any other thoughts welcome
Nigel.

just keep them in the running peramiters shown in your speedos manual, if your running a standard spur i was recommended to use a 24 pinion, and cutting the vent holes is always a good idea, do it cos u can always cover them up if its wet

Nigel.that is 2hot imo opinion thats about 170 f and only 5 mins run time yikes make sure you dont have some binding going on in your cvd or diffs or something, something is not working smoothly imo....
i ran a new lrp sxx tc and a 7.5 ballistic with a 21pinion and after like 8 mins runs i was coming off around 148 to 155 or so

I can look at it for you some time but im sure as you have the proper car you have to take into account that you do have geared diffs therefore there will be more pulling on the motor. im sure all durangos will run hot

Hi
I've been running my Speed Passion 6.5 on a 22 pinion also used a 23 and 24 pinion and it's not got as hot as that
Check all your drive train is free also the meshing between pinion and spur gear there should be abit of play between pinion an spur

Cheers guys - I've opened up the meshing between the spur and pinnion. Also got the vents opened up now down to 67 deg C after 5 mins. Is this acceptable?

Electrics in my durango do seem to run hotter than they did in my 511. But the performance is better too!
With a 5.5 + Sphere on a umm, something pinion, they were both coming off 70'C after 5 minutes, no fans.
That sort of temperature is just fine. I start to worry when it's 90'C + or more.
