As many know already we run a Touring Car and Buggy Club in Longbenton on Thursday evenings 6pm - 9.30pm.

Format is four qualifying rounds and one final, with seperate races for Touring Cars and Buggies.

For any newcomers our address is as below:

Longbenton Community College
Hailsham Avenue
Longbenton
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE12 8ER

Due to the recent problems in hosting weekly meetings we are aiming to either find a new venue or negotiate better terms at the existing venue, any updates will be posted here.

We will post a notice here if the club is cancelled again in future. Please pass this link onto friends / fellow racers

We have the option of a potential venue in Walker, this would be half of a sports hall and so roughly the size of a five-a-side pitch.
So should be plenty of room for a track that can suit both buggies and touring classes.
Only downside would be that we can only get the venue on a Sunday, can anyone let me know if this would be of interest??
Obviously we will keep looking for a weeknight venue to replace Longbenton, but if we can't find one this would seem like a sensible option.

Cheers
Paul

Having 3 x 1/10th clubs (at least) all within striking distance, all competing for the same drivers is bad enough, but to change one to a Sunday clash with another which already meets on a Sunday seems to me like suicide or clubicide which ever is the loser !

How about a merge of all clubs? Thats whats needed:thumbsup:

No, dont merge all clubs... it takes away the choice of racing days.
I cant race Sundays, or weekends really if Im away at an event, so the Friday night @ Benfield works great for me.

For others, Sundays are where its at, so lets keep the choice.

Let's not forget, we already have three clubs and have done for many years with limited cross over between members until recently. Also we are the last remaining club to offer touring car racing, benfield school is too small to accomodate both and seaham is too far out of the way for many.

I think there is enough cross-over to make a significant financial difference to clubs ending up racing at the same time on the same day of the week.

If Longbenton cannot find a venue for TCs on a day other than Sunday then inevitably a Sunday is better than not having a dedicated TC venue at all, but it is to be avoided if possible, imho.
The simplest example is if a club runs a one off competition, the other will likely have a poor attendance, as competitions tend to attract numbers.

As CP above said, the hope would be to keep the options open re racing on various days of the week. I'm sure he would like the chance of an off-road track on the odd Sunday when he got the chance.

Some good action last night, thanks for those who turned up!
Especially the "Moat Off" between Ross and Buckle, let's see who gets blasted next time!

As we now know the hall isn't going to be imminentley bulldozed, hopefully we may have some more positive news on the venue shortly and get the numbers back up.

Please spread the word on this thread for anyone who hasn't seen it, I'm hoping we can get more people down when we know that we are definitely on!

For anyone who hasn't done already, please pass your email address onto Mark Richardson. Mark will send out an email when he gets word of any cancellations. Also means I can now be lazy and not need to post on here!!

How many buggies turn up on a Thursday? Might have to pop over for some practice. Is it on carpet or polished floor?

Hi Chris,
Normally between 4 and 7 buggies, so plenty for one heat. Its just on the polished floor, normally set up a movable jump aswell.
Hopefully on this week!

As of Monday 28th Feb Newcastle RC Racers (Longbenton) are racing every Monday in the Sports Hall at TyneMet College on the Coast Road 7-10pm
Everyone welcome, part of the reason for changing venue was to try to attract new/old menbers back so come along and have a look.
Please bear in mind however that as it's a new venue, things may not run as smoothly as usual for a week or two. And don't forget your pit table
