Reedy Neo1 Motors and LRP Sphere

Hello,

I am new to the forums and first off just wanna say how great the entire oOple site is. The reviews and race coverage is awesome, especially for me because I live in the U.S. and I can really catch up with whats going on across the pond. Forums have a great layout also, love the colors/graphics.


Anyway on to why I am posting. I am new to Electric and had a couple of questions.I plan on running 2wd Mod buggy this fall and winter. I am going to run the B4 with a brushless lipo combo (supported at my track).

I received these items at a very good price.

LRP Sphere Competition ESC- New

Reedy Neo1 4 star- New

Reedy Neo1 1 star- Used


Now from what I have caught on from reading is that the 4* is a 5.5 turn brush-less, somewhere close to a 7 turn brushed. I understand this is to much motor for the 2wd mod class and is better suited in a 4 wheel drive car. Since I already have this motor new I was wonder if there is anyway I can limit it with the speed control to make it feel more like a 6.5 or 7.5 motor? Maybe even tame it a little with the gearing.

I also understand that the 1* may not quite be enough to be competitive in the Mod class and is better suited as something closer to stock?

I plan on running the Orion 4800 platinum lipo packs unless I find there is a different pack that is more recommended.

Any help I receive on any general information or and tips at all is greatly appreciated, since I am not very knowledgeable about the wiring/ pinions and gearing. Thanks in advance!

You cant fiddle the gearing to slow the motor down, brushless motors have a 'sweet spot' to which you need to gear them into so they run properly (efficiently ect). If you went with a 3* then it would be better suited, maybe trade your motors as a 4* would be rarly needed in a 2wd buggy, especially with lipo batteries.

As josh has said, with brushless motors there is pretty much only a sweet spot for most efficiency. You can go slightly either way for more top-end or excelleration. But the best thing to do would be to turn down the End-point on your tranny for the throttle. Which should reduce the amount of power that goes to the motor when yuor thumb is on full pelt. Or something like that.;)

I noticed in your signature you have B4 with 5.5, do you run your B4 with a 5.5 brushless? Do you feel the power is somewhat controllable? If you don't mind sharing what gearing you use? Thanks

I have decided to go ahead and purchase another motor. I looking at the 6.5 LRP Vector. Just wondering if this is a good choice for a 6.5 motor or if I should look at a 7.5. Thank you

It all depends on how confident you are and how you handle your car, brushless motors are quick no matter how you look at it, 6.5 is around 11t brushed but with more torque and 7.5 is around 13t brushed but with more torque, i dont think you need to go below 11t brushed in a 2wd yet people still run 5.5 BL motors, all depends on how good you are at throttle control.

Well form what i have heard. A 5.5 brushless is equivilant to a 7 turn brushed and a 6.5 is about an 8 / 9 turn, but as Josh said it is all about confidence and how well you think you will be able to control the car.:)
