How many of the 165 enterants in this years brca nationals were sponsored in some way or another?

Is it a case of all F1 and F2 drivers have support from a LHS or distrbutor or is it just the Top Top guns who attract the most interest from various companys.

Ive just returned to full time study and Im trying to think of ways to help support my extreme sports interest! (1-10th off road).:)

Im an F5, do people even at this level get support from LHS? Im not after anything for free, tho I would be happy to plaster my 1986 Scirocco In stickers to get abit of support!!!

Im not after anything major....just a new TRF201 hand built for me by Lee Martin, 5 sets of 50c 5200 lipos, petrol money to get to races, enterance fee's paid etc, etc...

Thinking about it just some tyres for my xx would be nice in exchange for selling my soul!

Cheers

it's not related to F grades at all, it's about what you can offer the company in terms of promotion and track side support for other racers. Obviously the top ten guys will get far better deals from suppliers due to their higher exposure and their greater knowledge of set up information etc.

You need to think what you can offer the sponsor and write to them. It's not just about getting some cheap spares in return for a few stickers on the shell.

Well the TRF a proper car unlike all this mid-motor stuff! lol

Im not saying Im expecting Tamiya to sign me up but an aggrement with a LHS seems a good idea

Like you said...what have I got to offer them?

Apart from enthusiasm not much else at the moment!

I have the first Tom-Spec T001 Cougar after his Championship win, hand built by Tombag :wub

Sorry, yes its a 2 way thing, what can you give to your sponsor? Its not just about results, for example can you get their product on TV Or similar? Sponsorship is basically advertising and there are many ways of doing that...

It makes sense...sponsorship is basically advertising

I doubt wearing a model shops hoodie is gonna create a large amount of extra sales etc

But if you have a good LHS you wanna do what you can to support them

I have sponsor advice if you want it?..

(although I'm not sponsored for RC cars) I used to be sponsored by Vans, DC, Addict, Ortofon and Ecler when I worked in the music industry

I'm assuming it's the same deal in the RC car scene. But going out hunting for sponsorship is a bad move, if you are good enough it will find you.. If you got the skills it will come, then if and when u get it, stay humble and professional as you now represent a company brand..

Everyone has the idea it's the big dream goal, of course it's good but you still have to give something back and their are new extra elements of added pressure to take on board.

I'd say, enjoy the sport and the rest should come.. I wouldn't chase a sponsorship carrot you tend to loose sight of why you started in the first place and then all the fun gets flushed down the swannnieee!!.

Big Up!!

Dan

Not sure if this is sarcasm or what.. But if it's not I think your shooting for the moon when you should really be realistically looking at some small potatoes at the moment!
I've raced for coming on 11 years, been an f2 for all but 2 of my first few seasons and the most I've managed is a B drive for a few major companies and never received anything for free, and never a high discounted price, and at the time I was towards the 40-50 mark at the national scene.

Sponsorship comes to those who work hard for it, pull the results, freindly, approachable, a role model, and can represent a company to a high standard.
The only other way to get some 'aid' from a company is by putting something back or into the hobby.
I've known jimmy since 04/05 when oOple was thrown out there with a forum and php was introduced, and only recently jimmy is receiving help from major companies after MANY late nights, thousands of pounds spent and alot of dedication in to what he does and I'd say he still doesn't get enough to cover he cost of what he does.

A sponsor isn't about you getting a few quid knocked off, it's a two way deal and you need to put more in to it compared to what you get, it's a responsibility and quite an amount of dedication.

If you want to do it cheap, buy good second hand equipment and keep running costs to a minimum, there's only yourself to consult on how much yu should put in to what you enjoy.

Big up Dan!

yeah your right....dont lose sight and have fun

I thought it was a good idea, now being a student my income has dropped 50% that I could become a walking bill board

I wont go as far as getting a tatoo on my head tho

Paul yes I was being very sarcastic! I think its important to support the local firms and clubs as much as possable and i think such "groups" like ours can have an important role to play in the community, especially where kids are concerned.

I dont expect anything for free.

I was pretty much in the same boat as you 10 yrs ago..

I was heavily into RC cars did nationals even got a cool little sponsor with Maxtec.. But then had to weigh up either, do my degree or work a 9-5 to support the rc cars. I chose degree and was the best move I ever made.

I am only now getting back into RC cars again,

I'd say just be realistic is all.

Big up Dan!

Sponsorship is not formula based (although it helps).
As mentioned it is what you can bring to the table for the sponsor - do you have a unique selling point perhaps that makes you stand out from the crowd?

The thing is, of those people that are 'sponsored', if they actually looked at what they do for that assistance is it really good enough...too many people sit on the laurels happy to wear a t-shirt and put some stickers on their car...

You should be promoting yourself at club meetings to assist those who need it - not just if they ask but if you see someone struggling.
Writing reports for websites after a good result
Taking photos for promo purposes

Even if this stuff is just put up in the local shop or on the club website...
How many people actually do this stuff?

IMO there are too many people that don't promote their sponsors well enough. I've heard too many sponsored drivers refer to some of their equipment in a public area as 'sh!t' and it just shouldn't happen!

why would you want it anyway?!!
its more fun beatin the "team" drivers with out of date/older kit!!.if you think its bad in off-road,go tickle the tarmac, rules dont apply to "team" drivers, they rebadge kit just so they can have the edge, dont worry about brca lists etc!!.thats why your better off just goin to the track when YOU want, not cause you have to!!.

Ive now been demoted to a F5 , mainly due to stopping from national and regionals for ten years but I still have a sponsor who supports me and its mainly down to how their product gets promoted.

But if your not not happy with a product your endorsing surley your obliged to tell others?

peetbee
28-09-2010, 06:11 PM
Not at all, as you have a responsibility to your sponsor (don't bite the hand that feeds you and all that)
But I would argue that if you're not happy with the product you are meant to be endorsing, then you should exit the agreement as soon as you are able to.

As Pete says, if you feel that way then it would be a better idea to leave as it will catch you out one day and then no one will want to back you unless your really something special.

Your from Newport, nice as I used to live there. Is the Pill pool league still going?

liam

no idea about pool in pill to be honest. will be moving to bristol soon so look forward to that

maybe if i stat my own company i can claim the vat cause its for promotion purposes :)
