No plans as yet, but there are some features that I would like to see used (as used at Petit RC last year)

Cross-over tabletop (wire mesh or rope bridge on top)
Slippy surface section (mdf sheets laid down)
A table top or vertical wall with a hairpin on it.
A rough area (lumps under carper or more mdf laid down)

All sounds good.

If we run foams maybe re-think the slippery section.
(But depends on how the foams work.)

The jumps in that video look awesome really nice and smooth. For a rough section we have a load of uncut door saddles (6ft long) which we lay out across the track staggered with some carpet over it.

We had planned on a crossover with a clear top but never got around to building it. We had been thinking of using a thick clear perspex with a mesh covering to give some grip should you end up driving over it.

Here's a video of the big tabletop at DiR, it's chicken wire table top which works ok but you cant drive over it particularly well as it sags too much.

I should be meeting our landlord, James, at the hanger in the Naul at 12 midday on Sunday to get keys etc.

I plan on sweeping, laying out the carpet that is already there and setting up the tent (nowhere else for it to live over the winter!!).

Ivan, Mick B and Tony will be bringing out more carpet and the hoses from Grifeen

Ivan, Mick B and Tony will be bringing out more carpet and the hoses from Grifeen

The plan for the hoses is to pack Ivan's van after the racing in Taney on Saturday. So any volunteers to pack hoses & track marking?

Sunday: Plan is for Tony & volunteers to pick up carpet from Stilorgan, (Tony will have a van). Then head to Naul. Any volunteers for the carpet?

Everyone else to head to the Naul. We will need to clean the place out before we lay the carpet. So if anyone has a yard / large out door brush, bring it along on Sunday.

Hi all,

There is a massive tabletop and a flat track laid out in the Naul. It's not the best track I've ever seen, so I can see it being ripped apart and remade.

Graham Parkes is getting some MDF sheets to complete the on-ramp to the table top. I want the clubmen able to flop onto the top of the jump and the madmen to go for it with the car 3 or 4 meters in the air :)
Graham is also getting about another 20 pallets to build the rostrum with.

The track is 12m deep, with the tabletop in the furthest lane from the rostrum - this means that there is about 6 lanes of track - plenty.
The straight is only 17m long instead of the regulation 20m, but this will be fine for 6 car finals.

ENTRY TO THE SITE ON THURSDAYS AND SUNDAYS.... All, there is an electric gate and barrier leading onto the site. Please do NOT press the "CALL" button as this phones the landlords mobile. Phone me instead (086 8165440) and I will give you the code for the gate.

Just a thought.

Loved the big jumps and I'm not giving out. But if anyone knew where we could could get something like gym mats for some of the landing areas, might help to soften the landings and cut down on breakages.

Shame I couldnt stick around today as I was getting the measure of the jumps. Looking forward to a fun indoor season.

Cheers

Quick report......

6 rounds completed, 2 to go;

In the 2wd Clubman class, Lee McGuire is currently at the top of the scoreboard. Lee is really getting the hang of the new Tamiya TRF 201 and is scoring consistantly around the back of the A-Final or top of the B-Final. He is not unchallenged however; Eoin Keating and Kevin White, both driving Team Associated B4 buggies are hot on his heals and we will not know who is the victor until all three have registered 6 scores after the last championship round of the season. Kevin and Eoin with only 4 rounds completed, must attend both of the remaining two rounds to catch McGuire who is rarely absent from racing. Another consistant scorer is Dave Bolger. Bolger is a regular front runner and winner of the Clubman class and is currently second on the leaderboard, however with all drivers yet to register 6 scores, he may find himself relegated to 4th at the end of the season. Peter Juramik, Graham Parkes and Rowan Walsh are all improving greatly having only taken up (returned to) the hobby lately.

In the 2wd modified class, yours truly has managed to take his mongral of a losi/atomic carbon/XXX/Street Weapon/BK2/MF2/XX4 to 5 maximum scores so far. I can testify that the pace is the hottest that I have ever experienced in the club and is testement to the fantastic facilities and organisation that we have in The Naul at the moment. The only other round winner is Mark Penny, but Micheal Bolger has been the closest championship challenger with 6 x 99 point scores. Mark will not affect the championship as he has not attended enough rounds to be able to secure 6 counting scores. Third position in the series is currently held by Michael O'Leary, also with a B4. However there are 3 competitors close on his trail. Derek McCloskey, Nigel Dungan and John Dungan will all finish close to O'Leary's point tally assuming that they attend the remaining rounds to allow for their best 6 to count. McCloskey returned to racing at Xmas after a sebatical racing touring cars and 1/8th Nitro and is now back on the pace that he showed when going to win the Irish National Championship on several occasions. His return has led to a strengthening of pace at the front of the field and everybody has to now push that little harder. Nigel and John Dungan have recently swapped to Atomic Carbon CR2 buggies and are showing great improvement in their pace and the fact thet they may challenge for third place in the championship is testement to this. Tony Kavanagh is the other contender for the coveted third place on the podium. The Tamiya TRF201 driver is getting to grips with the new car and is starting to build up his pace - 1 more points score could see him draw level or overtake O'Leary - so the battle will be tough!

In the 4wd modified class, Mick O'Leary is the current championship leader with 2 wins using his Team Associated B44. William White is in second having registered 6 scores, including 4 wins, however he failed to start the final (with a 4wd) in round 2 resulting in a score of 0. Again Nigel and John Dungan are showing a strong and similar pace and may challenge the top of the leaderboard at the end of the season - both have registered only 4 scores so far.

Remaining rounds are February 27th and March 13th - be there!

Well the final round of the championship was a biggy!! There have been position shuffles in all of the classes and the results are now up on the club website - www.dublinmodelracing.com (http://www.dublinmodelracing.com)

In the clubman class, Eoin Keating put in a great performance under pressure to win the class and the championship. Lee McGuire finished second cementing his position as runner-up in what is becoming a difficult championship to win. Focus will now turn to the 2011 outdoor championship. Kevin White registered his sixth score to finish 3rd by leapfroging Dave Bolger who was fourth in the championship.

In the modified section, Mark Penney put in another top performance to win the round, but with only 4 scores, he doesn't qualify for the overall positions. William White finished a close second and posted the only 16 lap run of the season to secure the championship win. Derek McCloskey, driving the improving Cougar SV, registered his sixth score of season in third place and secured third overall in the championship. Michael Bolger put in another consistant performance to ensure that second in the championship was his with a 4th place finish.

In 4wd, Derek McCloskey was the pace setter all day and is really getting to grips with the CAT SX2, but a single unfortunate bad-bounce in the final was enough to gift William White with the win - giving him a maximum 600 point tally for the championship. Michael O'Leary hung on to finish 3rd in the final, securing 2nd in the series also. Whilst a battle between the two Dungan brothers saw John come out on top - leaving John and Nigel, third and fourth in the championship respectively.

Other notable performances of the day were;
Paul Penney was a very welcome visitor to the Naul for the last round of the series. He spent the day practicing on Saturday with his Cougar SV and was setting times that would stick him amongst the top drivers in the A Final. Very unfortunately, Paul would break a front bulkhead in practice on race day and without a spare available was forced to use a 10 year old Associated B4 that was less that perfect. I reckon I jinxed him by "talking him up" on the forum last week..... sorry Paul.
In addition to the already mentioned drivers, Kevin White, Tony Kavanagh, Graham Parkes, and even young Ciaran Parkes all seemed to get around the track a littel better today - this bodes very well for the outdoor season.

Well done all :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I enjoyed the track- was great fun-and the racing was very close. ( Unfortunately I had plenty of time to watch as I seemed to break everything I layed my hands on-not only my SV-gutted-as it was so good in practice-but my electrics and borrowed car also! )
