Hi guys, this is my attempt at a mid motor car.... the "TPS Mid Motor Conversion" (lol, my dad thought of the name).... i got bored one day and had a spare B4 chassis so got thinking...

i dont have many tools available just a dremel and a drill!

the car wasnt drawn out or designed, i just cut bits off here and there to make it all fit together... anyway here it is....

Looks very good. I'm guessing you live in the UK with those tires.

Looks good, but looks a little long, how long is it compared to a std B4?

If I was you I'd try hard to get the cells as close together as possible and as far back as possible.

thanks guys, yea i live in the UK :p...

its only about an ince longer, i was going to make it out of sheet carbon fibre, but couldnt afford it so used what i had! i might buy another B4 chassis next year and have another go:)

its only about an ince longer,

'only' ? that is HUGE!

and what Northy said, cells an motor must be as close as possible, 1 clunk heavy weight stuff.
Not a bit here and a bit there :)

blood clod.... what do you mean by carbon fibre brace? lol :).....

cooper.. it was jus something to kill time.... i had no drawings or anything, jus went by eye and rough guesses! might make a newer version next year.

It does look good, but I agree it's too long really. Nice work though!

its a bit longer yes, but why does that matter?

A longer chassis is said to take away steering but stabilize the car. Sometimes, seems like a B4 needs it but not by that much.

hi guys... refined the car a bit, replaced the xxx rear end with a xxx-cr rear and made a new lexan cover for the carbon fibre which aswell as stopping the carbon gettin scratched also helps keep the dirt out..

hi ben.. thanks for the comment... ive only raced it at southport.. which, if you havent been to.. is a medium to high grip track (i think) and very bumpy... it handled really well! at least i tought so... suits my driving style!

Yeh ive been to southport. If it can handle southport it must be able to cope on other tracks. Cos southport isnt the most forgiving tracks ive raced on.

Oh right Tom....thought it was the same one...and it does go well. Don't want by a rear aluminium pivot block do you? Stop breaking those plastic ones?

I've recently come into possession of another XXX, so I'm going to have a crack at modding one of these.

after racing the car once at the southport GP... all i can say is that i was impressed, unfortunately, early in the second heat the diff gave up.

so... i have just taken the car apart today and looked at the diff... the white gear which holds all the diff balls is completely f@!k3d (f@!k3d).. its actually in two pieces now

now, i know im running the transmission in reverse.. but should it really destory it that badly :eh?:, should it? i didnt really think it would cause such a problem....

just wondering... does anyone know what could be the cause... or is it because its running in reverse?

any help appreciated as i really want the diff to last because i really like the handling of my car!!!!!

cheers, Tom

Tom

it's more likely that the diff was either:-
slipping too much
not built correctly
already worn outrunning your gearbox "backwards" won't make a scrap of difference. If it did, the gears would be marked as "directional", i.e only to rotate in one direction, and they are not.

I had a diff in my MF2 do that, and it was because the spring in the diff half was knackered, and i overtightened it. The added friction melted the diff and it ended up in two pieces, probably similar to yours!

ahhhh... few.. my project can live on then!!... just need to buy a new diff... they dont come cheap!!! :(

you only need the new diff gear dont you? unless any other of the parts are worn?

i dont know what my balls are like though, may need to check them ;) they could add to the problem

You know you should always check your balls, because if something goes wrong with them then it could cost you the ultimate price.
