So what's the preferred route down?

For Portsmouth (East), I normally go through Guildford, because the M27 is a stinker. But I'm going to go via Basingstoke and the M3 and then go cross country.

Also, what motor shall I start with? If the track is going to be a cut down 1/8th track would a 10x2 be appropriate or will it be a 'normal' size?

I was mid table last time Pesky.

Elliott.

the crosshairs are where the gate is & the tracks right there in the bottom of that field, old satellite image so track not shown!
zoom out to see roads etc to plan your journey, maybe even use coordinates for satnav?

hope that helps those of you who've not been before ;)

Fret not little grasshoppers, the force is with us, but first we must travel to the dark side of the city, near the smithandlow, and make contact with he who calls himself MK999, then together we shall venture towards the southern edges of our fair land, a sharp eye watching for bongo's as we approach warp speed at dawn, a cheesyburger and a cup of tea being our first reward.

expect to arrive 7.45ish, somewhere cosy to pit would be nice as gazebo is with the Droyds .................:cool:

cheesyburger cup of tea & an argument more like!

Steve the burger man is well funny at Clanfield, you always end up having a heated debate over something when you order your food! :D

when you order you food say to him "2 bacon rolls a cup of tea & an argument please" LOL
if you really want to have a laugh try buying just a cup of milk off him as if you've got your own kettle with you, that always goes down well or when he tells you the price try chipping him by 10 or 20p everytime LOL

seriously! its funny as :D

Was a brilliant track on a fantastic racing surface, if they hadn't had the slightly dodgy dirt delivered it would have been spot on. Great for learning your car on too, by the end of the day even I had throttle control with my heavy left index finger and a 13 turn :p Was somewhat annoyed by dumping in the final after leading for a lap though (still haven't figured out why :wtf:).

Only criticism of the track is that it's a little hard to see smaller 10th scale cars around the track with regards to marshilling, with the large pipes and features, quite often it took quite a while for people to get marshalled, but i can't say i really know a solution either. It seems to me they usually have more marshalls out at a time there? was points numbered up to 15 or so.

How many people were there and who won???

Lee Martin
15-10-2007, 07:49 AM
not many people at all....which i must say im very pissed off about.

the track and organisers re laid the surface and done alot of work to the track to make this work for us 10th guys. tony is extremely helpful and will do almost anything for the racing community and to repay him by a small turnout is unexceptabl really...

i feel quite embarrased for myself and 10th scale as it showed alomst no commitment to a new and awesome venue.

makes myself wonder why i try so hard to find new palces and put on events when the turn out is minimal.

the day went smooth. we all had fun and the cars got some BIG air and loved it!

i TQ'ed and after messing around in the final Daz Bloomfield won with truman 2nd.

all i can say is im dissapointed.

Location may have had something to do with this, and also that the 1st round of the Kiddy winter series was running!

Just my 2 cents (I didnt go to Kiddy btw)

Lee Martin
15-10-2007, 08:01 AM
How many times have people been to kiddi.................?

its not going to change....this is a one off track that is only a one off event........

i thought that racing on dirt with big jumps would appeal. no disrespect for kiddi......

but its not change from the past 10 years! and this is a one off meeting that we were lookingfor support for.

i also used 1 set of tyres all day! what did you all use?

markwilliamson2001
15-10-2007, 08:03 AM
I didnt use any tires...

I didnt even go racing... :(

Know what you mean pidge! Considering this could be one of the rounds that COULD replace Tiverton next year as a national, I do wonder where some of the national drivers were...

Sorry to hear about ur turn out.

Sounds like a good track that people just didnt go too. The weather was good, but I bet alot of people went to Kiddy. Its hard to get people to try different things, its easier for people to just complain!!!!!

And I didnt race this weekend either, was home recovering from an operation.:o

What an awesome day it was!!!!!

That track gets huge respect from me, 2wd with Proline tyres on a Dirt track with huge jumps is what this hobby is all about

I think the track would easily cope with a big 1/10th meeting, especially with a few minor adjustments to tighten certain sections up a bit, but the main thing is that it's soooo big there are loads of ways to make it smaller / different.

The two huge doubles were absolutely awesome, even the Sun was out so all you guys that decided not to come really missed out i'm afraid.

I know where Lee's coming from as it does just make the 1/10th people look like they're not interested - If he'd advertised it as a 1/8th meeting he'd have probably got 50 people easily.

Just hope they're still prepared to help us all out by making this superb venue even better for our little 10th cars, as for me there won't be another track like this for a fair bit of time.........

Thanks again to Tony the organiser, and to Adam and Rob for making the day somewhat entertaining for us all :D

I don't want to look at the results.

So that's what the American tracks are like. Cool.

I can tell I'm a really slow learner. I broke a bunch of stuff. My arse was all over the shop.

Fantastic day. Beautiful drive down and back along the A272 between the A and M 3. I'd certainly do it again.

If you weren't there you missed an outstanding meeting. I wouldn't touch the track, it doesn't need to be shorter, narrower or need an infield.

I had Bowties and fat ribs and they look barely touched after a day. Although, I can't be certain, because they are caked in mud.

We had the B4 and the ZX5 and managed to rip the suspension off both of em! plus a couple of battery packs with "thin" bars just became sadle packs ? no wonder Jordan was stuttering last turn in his final.

Drive back to the A34 - Winchester - was outstanding, beautiful piece of road.

B4 set up would be something liek this...if they took my advise.......

frnt;

no 1, 35wt, brown spring. middle hole on tower. outside on arm
short link with 1 washer.

rear;

no 2, 30wt, silver spring, inside hole on tower. inside hole on arm.

2 degree sqwat.

big wing.

cells middle.

Nick Goodall
15-10-2007, 01:29 PM
I didn't get any advice LeeRoy!! I just ran a set-up that i found on the net for loose bumpy dirt :D

Front

Inside hole on shock tower
Outer hole on wishbone
30wt, No 1, Brown Springs
30 Deg Casters

Rear

Inside hole on shock tower
Inside hold on wishbone
25wt, No 2, Silver Springs

S/Short wheelbase
Cells Back
Big Wing

To be fair it could have been a bit better but it was working well enough for me not to worry about changing it, and i don't think it would have been possible to really generate that much more grip from the car - maybe just a bit of fine tuning but saying that i'd probably still run what Lee suggests for next time :) - He knows the car better then i do that's for sure ;)

I'm glad you guys liked the track, I had a bit of a culture shock as did the rest of you as I normally go round it with an LST, and have no trouble "seeing" it., but when I stood up on the rostrum and drove my "little" 1/10th round for the 1st time, It was like nothing I'd driven before.:eh?:

Must agree, the turnout was a bit lame, and as I like 1/10th I did wonder if Tony (Bolwell) thought maybe it was a waste of time inviting a load of electric buggy boys over. I think he enjoyed it though as it wasn't hectic like the barrage of nitro meetings (RX national, XRay, club round, T&T national) he ran last month.

I hope we have another one, and this time, bring your mates, all of them.

Anyone interested in my set up for my DF03?:D

Front:
TRF shocks,
Red springs
45wt
"Super Gripper" tyres

Rear:
blue springs

Motor: 16x2
Cells: RC2000

Laugh all you like:D, I did.

my car fell apart on my very first lap for no apparent reason but once fixed i never touched it again all day :D
it survived a few tumbles i thought would kill it but kept going!
slapped the ground hard a lot of times when over jumping the doubles which didn't seem to bother it so i'd have to say the B4 is stronger than it looks ;)

i'm used to 8th but had no problem seeing my car all day, it didn't look that small to me even on the far side of the track!
i was expecting a fair few more drivers but im used to 8th meetings that fill up really quickly!
so you guys don't run on dirt tracks with jumps much then?

That track looks great!! What would it be like in the wet???

Muddy:D, seriously though, It depends what sort of "wet" it is. As far as rain is concerned, It's actually better when it's pissing it down rather than just stopped, Cos the mud doesn't "stick". The track dries out, to the extent of having a true "dry" line, within an an hour or two. It really is an all weather track, despite it being made of dirt.

You guys must be bored af astroturf and block paviers by now, surely, lol:D
