re: booking in on the day, this should shed some light (quote taken from racechat form Mark Musgrove)
"Yes you can turn up next Sunday for the first event and book in and pay on the day, no problem with that. However that is for rd1 only, because of the large amount of interest in this winter series we are just wanting people to pre book so we can get you booked into the relevant heats and most things sorted prior to the event taking place so that we dont have it all to do Sunday morning, cause thats when problems start to happen and everything starts to go wrong. Also it will mean more races for you guys. We shall have entry forms available on the day on Sunday so what I suggest is that you fill out a form for what rounds you think you are going to be able to make or hoping you can make, then if for whatever reason you cant make it then its much easier for us, for you to contact us before the event and take you out of the meeting. Ideally would be a big help if people can pay in advance by cheque for what round you think you are likely to attend, then if you cant make it for any reason then we can just refund you without a problem. We are just trying to get rid of the hassle of dealing with money on the day, as its another job that takes time. Anyway dont feel you cant just turn up to the event as we shall do our best to accomodate you in a heat, like I say would just be easier if you can pre book and sort it before hand. http://www.rcracechat.com/vb/images/smilies/wink.gif

I completely agree Jim hence my post here http://www.rcracechat.com/vb/showthread.php?p=292221&posted=1#post292221
Fortunatly they are allowing you to book in on the day so I'll defo be there this Sunday. There's no way I can say what meetings through the winter I can make at this stage so it will be turn up on the day or nothing for me. It's not like with Regionals, Batley, York and Teeside there aren't loads of places to just turn up and race. The system they want just massvly over complicates things and as you say, just puts you off.

Pre-booking is advised for this one as spaces are limited, as the event is being run with touring car Junior Championships.

might go on sunday.. whats the deal with power? i've yet to buy a 12v for indoors so would ideally need 240 mains, any ideas if we can use it?
MattW

Yeah my understanding is that mains won't be a problem - which is nice as i don't have any decent 12v's any more!!

Doors will open at 7:00am on Sunday morning and we hope to have all booking in finished and racing ready to go by about 9:00am. The race format shall be 4 rounds of qualifying on round by round with the best 2 to count, and then followed by 1 final.

Hello everyone, well I've just registered on here now, as I know a fair few of you that attend Worksop meetings use this site, so please pm me for any further info you need regarding the racing at Worksop. We have quite a few drivers already entered for the events this season and some top names attending once again so that is very good to see. For everyone who has any doubts regarding pre booking, we are taking entries on the day like people have said on here, no problem just turn up on the day to race and we shall accomodate you where possible, as long as we dont go over 120 entries ideally. The main reason behind the trying to get people to pre book is to save alot of time on the day so we can get racing underway and you all get more races in, and so we dont have to sort out race fees etc on the day, but got alot already pre booked and paid so time wise should be alright. We are looking at doing 4 rounds of qualifying on round by round followed by a final.
Hope this helps

Well done to the club, the track was a bit tight in places but overall a nice layout :)
The surface was quite strange, it was eating the tires but having much spike left didn't seem to make much difference, my left front was slick by the end of the day but it was still giving good grip :D
super__dan
01-10-2007, 01:36 PM
I agree, a thoroughly enjoyable club day on a really great surface. My only complaint was the jumps which were a bit questionable. The far right one you couldn't see the up slope or the apex and the one in front of the rostrum needed a more useable downslope for cars gettign 6 - 8 feet of air.
McGoo said he might have a hand in the next one, which would be good!

i liked the last jump :D i too think the middle was too tight, so put the fronts toeing out so i could drift round them :D so i also now have no understeer on my XXX. on tyres-mine arent too bad, rear right is worst:confused:

Speaking to them yesterday, I think they realised that it was a bit too tight, and will look at making the next track more 'flowing'.
My only critisism was again, the landing off the big jump. The matts were good for protecting the cars but if you landed heavily you bounced and rolled the car, and if you went in with the front down it just dug in and stopped you dead. you had to get it spot on. Ok it was a good test of skill, but would have been better with a nice landing.
But in all, a good day and an early finish. would be nice to see some of you there again next month.:)

Couldn't agree more Tel, over jumping by about 6 inches would make the front dig in and the car stop, that jump pulled 2 bumpers off the front of my BJ4 :wtf:

I thought on the whole it was good as well. Agree with comments so far - big jump just was a little out, and agree with Dan on the first jump - i drove off the inside a couple of times as i couldn't see it too well.
P.A could maybe do with a little work as well - i didn't find it all that clear. ALthough considering that it was the current organisers first "buggy only" meeting, i think it went well.

PA defo needs work but i think they said spektrums were messing it up for some reason, I liked the second corner but it should of been somewhere else so you could see the apex

Mark why are you picking on me with that picture;), apart from that downramp i thought the track was great.
I'd like to see a combination of jumps like they had infront of the rostum at the regional finals in York last year to sort the men from the boys (i'll be in the B:rolleyes: if they do that)

I enjoyed the event, was good. The surface is ace & unique.
I agree, the blind upramp and apex was a struggle, although after having a walk a to have a look before Q1 I never got it wrong again after practice. The jump infront of rostrum needed a less agressive downramp, the steep one was a bit tough to aim for and the ripped matt just threw some cars back at it.
My biggest issue was the bit of the track which went like this "bump bump jump bump matts 180degree". Not only was it complex, but none of the marshall points could get to it. When I made a mistake here it was basically *game over, insert 10p to continue*
On their own the "bump bump jump bump" would be great, and the matts were great too, but together created a unmarshallabable zoe.

haha, yeah...and who's zoe? and what was she doing in the middle of the track?:D maybe she is the reason you having probs there chris?:D
It would be nice to have someone with a bit more experience in the off road track building (no offence to Loen, jonny and muzzy. but they're mainly T.C. racers, which explains the tightness), I've offered to go and help next month with the track build on the saturday.:wtf:
Danny McGee
02-10-2007, 03:55 PM
I'm pretty sure that im gonna go over next time and help them with the track layout, jumps etc. I agree with the comment so far. It was quite tight but i didnt find that a problem, its nice having to be precise for a change. I think the meeting was great, i dont think ive been to a meeting with 4 qualy round and finals with a decent break and finished before 4 (i think it was). Good effort.
What would people like to see next time. I was thinking with regards to the big jump in front of the rostrum, maybe making it a bit longer and having a 2 teard downramp, i'll run my car over it an make sure it will be "do able" consistantly. What about a bit of a rhythm jump section? How would people feel if the straight was a little narrower? I always find it bigger than it needs to be an that way we could open the infield out a bit more.
Any ideas people?
p.s it would be nice to see more people there next time :), i dont wanna hav to marshal my own car again in the finals lol
telboy
02-10-2007, 04:33 PM
I think the straight being narrower won't be a problem. My main prob with the straight was the fact that you couldn't see a section because of the layered matt corner. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but for some reason I was place in the bottom heat and had a lot of 'slower' cars on the straight, appearing from behind the matts in front of me.
So it would be better if the matted corner was elsewhere in the lap.
Some carpet over the matts would help too. I'll have to have a word with Leon and see if they can get some.
The big jump being longer would be good. I think lots proved that their cars could jump further than it :D.....and a better down ramp too. Not sure about it being near the rostrum either. A few cars landed in the drivers feet in my heat, because they couldn't get their cars straight as they hit it. Maybe have the straght in front of the rostrum next time?
rythm section would be good.
James
02-10-2007, 05:02 PM
Think we need to keep the most dificult features nearest the drivers, the straight ought to stay where it is in my opinion but we'll make it narrower next time..
I reckon we need some large sheets of plywood to cover the mats which ought to give a better profile than just laying carpet for up and down rams of the main 'feature' jump.
I think the centre has thrown some of the large red wooden boxes we used last series away as they'd been stored outside and gone rotten, really need some exterior ply or similar if we're to make the larger jumps longer as we're now short on boxes. They were used for the rostrum last year, i'm surprised noone commented that the rostrum was half the height of last years!
Where you coming from Danny? Youre quite a way off arent you?
Chrislong
02-10-2007, 05:29 PM
I don't mind a narrow straight danny, so long as the end corner is made tighter by it, I like the corner we had on Sunday - it was fast without being flatout, and the corners of the pipes didn't jump out.
leave Zoe alone... she's unmarshalabable!
I like the sound of a rhythem section Danny. The bump bump jump bump section could be done as three jumps, clearing the 3rd - I don't think many 2wds did it, but i was on 50% of my laps, but then it made the matts a bit more tricky as had 2ft to scrub the speed off.
Sooo, perhaps 4 jumps like they had, but all a bit closer, so they can be done as a double double, 4 singles, triple single but defo don't make it quadable.
I wonder, if we'd had that thick blue crash matt layed after the big jump, so it was in the landing zone, then drive off that, onto some thinner matts.
There are lots of idea's, it'd be a shame to use them all at round 2 and peak on the track building, save some things for the other rounds ;) otherwise all tracks will be similar except for the corners.
Now then, straight infront of the rostrom - now thats old school! We always used to have the straight there back in the days of Leigh for anyone who remembers that club. Personally I don't mind, or a diagnal straight!
Chris

03-10-2007, 05:50 PM
some good idea comin i like the rythem section danny
to me the problem with the small ramps was the materiel they were made from ( same as up ramp on the big jump) it was that hardboard? wood, which moved and flexed everytime a car hit it so car hit wood, flexed and then kicked the car (noticed it when marshalling near em) a firmer plywood would make em more consistent
im not track designer, but it is nice to see allot of racers wanting to help! well done all
Northy
03-10-2007, 06:04 PM
The landing zones after jumps are always much better if they are:
Hard material
Long
Shallow angle
The sequence of jumps we had at the indoor finals that people really liked weren't high, but were just right and as above. Some of the countrys best drivers said they were great :D (engage smug mode.....)
