Should be good.
Track surface is looking good. Few more jumps and everything will be spot on for a good winter race.
I'm already liking the table top on the back straight, lots of air time.

Anyone got a picture of the current layout.
The track won;t be complete until thursday afternoon. So I'll take some pics on Thursday evening if you're not heading down.
There is already a huge tabletop - about 7m long and 1m high - car get thrown about 3 metres on the air. There will be a cross over and some small jumps made by thursday evening.

Good racing last night. It's encouraging to see cars using minipikes doing well.
We had nine drivers.
Johnny Dungan is getting the hang of the CR2!!!
Time for Ian to go Kyosho I reckon :p

XX4 is known for being weak arround the front too - and its the same layout..... big ugly front bumper could be the answer.....
Did you say it was today that you may have the gearbox done? or next friday?

Hi all,
At the moment racing tomorrow night is looking doubtful. There is supposed to be a deep freeze tonight and the lane from the motorway to the shed could be tricky to say teh least. I have a friend in Drogheda who has reported that the secondary roads around the town are lethal.
Anyone got any opinion on this?
MiCk B.
01-12-2010, 11:34 AM
I think cancelling is a serious option at this stage.
N4 & M4 this morning was down to one lane. Hate to think what unused side roads would be like.
I wouldn't see myself heading there. It's 1.5hrs of a journey for me at the best of times. Hate to think how long it would take with the roads as they are at the moment.
RWD in this weather is serious fun!

There was only 5 racers this evening, and one spectator :) , but the good news is that the road up to the track is a little icey up the middle but generally fine.
Once on site, out landlord has the road up to the shed salted, so it's completely free of ice. Toilet however is frozen solid :)
Ian's car has been greatly improved, the XX4 ran and I've started a setup, and the CR2 managed 16.5 second lap and 17 laps in the final (2 laps faster than previous best time) - all thanks to a new front end and home-made steering rack - thanks Mick for the carbon fibre :)

Good turn out including a new racer with a Losi Eight-e and a 22!! - but its obvious that there is still a load of work to be done to get the track up to standard. Hope to get the track screwed down before Sunday.
I think a "Wall of death" on the hairpin before the table top would help the rythm of the tabletop section. I'll consult with Ian and see what he thinks.

I totally agree buggy's are made to jump:thumbsup: It's part of the fun:D
I think there needs to be a balance between 'death' and 'challenging'
If somebody, with more experience than me, can design jumps that are technically difficult BUT don't destroy our cars then I'm all for it.
I understand that having varied jumps pushes the club racers abilities but like all things in life you need a happy balance:thumbsup:
celticpanman
05-11-2011, 12:52 PM
Yes that is what I meant. A good balance will be best for all
Not boring and flat
Not with crazy jumps that damage either OR RUIN THE
FLOW OF THE RACING.
OTHERWISE go for it.

Hi Lads,
Have a look at the links below. Most of the jumps seem fairly mild & some are movable so you can change the track very quickly.
The last link has a small wall of death coming onto the straight, looks interesting:thumbsup:

Yep,
Have to agree with Tony about the 'wall' I've driven on a few over the years. And in all honesty they do look good, but apart from that nothing else, don't really add much to a track.
The time spent building one would be better spent build more small jumps and rhythm sections.

i agree with you and neil cragg.lol...i love jumps but not flat out ones...too much risk of breaking my car badly....no skill in it for me...just hit it as hard as you can and hope for the best..ive trashed two lrp sxx v2 speedos...thats 400 quids worth,,i put it down to all the heavy landings, nothing could take that..i also think its too dangerous for marshalling and for people watching near it...i got it wrong in practice and just missed some guy...i mean i just missed his head....i wouldve killed him i think...dont know about anyone else but i dont want to live with hurting somebody...
also one poor dude got hit in the face, blood everywhere...imagine if that was a kid...johnny dunn got hit on the side of the head....
i think its time to think of something more suitable and safer.
even move the hump up tight to the first corner...
its not the height its the speed thats the problem...

Hi,
Speaking as the "poor dude" that got hit in the face i am ok, pair of black eyes a bad start to new year but otherwise fine. i am glad it was a 2wd clubman and not a 4wd modified that hit me though or could have been worse.......
for what its worth I have to agree about the skill level needed for the big jump, as someone who had not turned a wheel on an RC car for 15 years the jump was the bit i struggled with the least, nail it and if u lined up then bingo. by comparison i was all over the place in the technical infield sections.
overall though a fantastic track with brilliant organisation and everyone very friendly and helpful for a newcomer:thumbsup:

Best leave this for to the committee to discuss on Sunday and not trail through it on the forum. Ray was looked after at the time and is ok.
The track changes approved at the last committee meeting will hopefully be started on Thursday evening.
