Hi,
I'm looking into buying a Cat SX II. I had been racing a B44 with no problems at all.
Can you please tell the strengths and weaknesses of the Cat SX II, is it as good as the B44.
Many thanks.
Rob.

Hi there. If u already race a buggy I would say u may not find many weakness's. I started buggy racing with a cat sx and learning (crashing) the car used to break front wishbones all the time. Now I'm more confident it seems like a strong car considering the punishment it gets round stotfold.
I would advise getting a second hand sx1 tho. Someone should have already done the mods that make the sx2 stonger. And the bb shocks look that part but I've seen top drivers prefer the normal ones.

I went from a B44 to a SX and I love mine. Defo get a SX1 though. Friends of mine with SX2's have practically replaced all the plastic bits with alloy through breakages.
Wishbones do break, but I would say they were stronger than the B44's.

If I bought a SX I and bought all the alloy for it, would that make it a very expensive or heavy car?
Why is the newer SX II weaker than the soon to be replaced (presumably) SX I?
Does the cat handle as well as the other top cars in it's class?
Thanks.

the SX1 comes with all the alloy parts. No heavier than any other car out there.
The SX2 had to save costs somewhere for the shocks upgrade aswell as a few other parts. I think the SX2 was also cheaper than the SX1 when brand new.
The cat handles just as well as anything else on the track

So the SXI is a better stronger car, but the SX2 has better shocks and some other small improvements?
Is the best Cat to buy an SXI, fitted with the better parts from the SX2 ?
If this is the case, what would the total cost be for an SX1 with SX2 upgrades fitted?
Is the SX2 an updated SX1, surly the SX2 is a replacement for the SX1?
Will they stop selling the SX1?
If the SX1 is a better car than the newer SX2, then the SX2 is a backward step ???????
I'm totally confused

There is a lot of cost cutting in the SXII kit - very few ally bits (plastic replacements  ) and no titanium turnbuckles. I would say get an SX I and buy the big bore shocks. The new shocks are much more consistent than the smaller bore ones.

Has the bad gears, clutch and lay shaft been sorted for the SX1?
How long will the SX1 still be for sale, are they phasing it out?

I've just rung Apex. They say the SX1 is discontinued and replaced with the SX2 (maybe able to find a shop with an SX1?)
So it seems I would be stuck with buying an SX2 and buying all the extra alloy parts to make it strong again.

the SX1 was discontinued months ago. My dad managed to get 1 of the last few from Schumacher really cheap.
It's unlikely you'll find a new one for sale, unless you phone round every shop you can and get lucky.
Best thing just buy a 2nd hand one off here.
The SX2 is an improvement, but to keep the costs down they replaced a lot of the alloy parts with plastic. If you don't hit anything the plastic parts will serve just as well as the alloy ones.
Either way to build the ultimate cat you'll need to buy either of the versions and then all the parts which are better.
The gears aren't bad in the SX1. my dad's brand new on is still on it's original gears. I put my bad experience with the gears down to worn bearings. Never had a problem with the gears since replacing them.

Go for the SXII with S1 chassis, most team drivers use the S1 chassis most of the time. Yes you have to buy wishbone mounts in alloy, but to get the 4mm front end mount with the SXII and this is very good improvenment of the car. And the big bore shocks are sooo good. With the SXII you also have the right camber link mounts, but you need titanium turnbuckles..
I will with no doubt say.. go for the SXII
