Im using 78/27 with success on a medium indoor track. So the 27 or 28 would be good for the 80T

Where did you find the 78?
Did you use an AE or kyosho?

Yes use a ae spur.
ive been running a 10.5 geared 27/80 so i would def go to a 29 or 30t with a 13.5 If u need more adjustment to slide the motor back. Take a dremel and and dremel the slots for more adjustment to fit a bigger pinion!:D

See this for the AE Spur gear. I'm now using the TQ/AR spring even with the 4mm shims between the tranny and motor plate.
