Are there any more details about this series? Sorry for the newbie questions, but...

1. are there control tyres?
2. can you enter, and pay on the day?
3. how many rounds count?

Thank you very much.

losixxx

no control tyre
2 from 4 at each venue normally
tony prefers pre booking but im sure you wont be turned away. think its £4 entry, thats what it usually is but they may have increased it?

Chris Green

Thanks for that.

What tyres work well at Kiddy on a B4? I have some pro-line bow-tie rears, some green Ballistic Buggies, and some kit Associated pro-line tyres?

I'm guessing I should be looking at Shumacher Yellow mini pins really?

Also, as I'm used to the luxuries of indoor racing, this will probably be my first outdoor meeting. What do I need to bring with me? Is pitting indoors? do I need a 12v?

Thanks.

Chris Doughty
05-10-2007, 01:15 PM
Ballistic Buggy Pink Pins in the Wet, BB Green Pins in the dry.

BB spikes work OK, thats the tire most people used at the national (control tire BB spike or Schum Mini-Spike)

its outdoor pitting and unless you have or can share someones generator then you will need a 12v

ashleyb4
05-10-2007, 01:37 PM
And a table

And maybe a tent or gazebo if it rains to keep dry.

Again as chris says ballisitic pins work the best round kiddy pinks wet and greens dry.

Andyou course you will need the normal three crystals or if your spektrum you dont need them.

Kiddy is an ace track.

It was a good day. Qualified 8th in the B and came 6th. Was in fourth for most of the race but Mike and Martin had other ideas. Shame about the rain, but my positions in the round were better when it was wet!

Highlight of day was Phil Channon throwing a TRF501 ten feet into the air whilst marshalling...

Was a good day. Spent most of it making changes to the BJ4WE to try and get somewhere close to a drivable car. Hampered by only having Schummy Greens but worked hard on the car and it was getting there by the end of the day. Borrowed some blick pink spikes for the final and it proved that it was the rubber holding me back all day, much improved the car ..... thanks to Ian for the help.

The cells I got from Neil seem top notch .... thanks for all your help too mate ... will try to get more of a chance to chat to you at the next one!

Good days racing, really enjoyed it!!!

Allow me to jackanory... this was absolutely hilarious...

A guy with a Tamiya 4wd was comin down the straight and his car stopped. Channon was marshalling the straight so he ran to go get the car out the way fast as it was in the main straight. Even though people shouted "car in the straight!!!" they kept goin flat chat... So Phil bombs over to it, reaches down and tries to wrist whip it out the way, he grabs the back shock tower, goes to lift the car up as fast as he could and, as the track and car wer soakin wet... it slipped out the back of his hand, flew about 8ft, did a 1080 in the air and crashed back to the ground poppin a turnbuckle off i believe... I was in fits, I saw it all unfold as I was marshalling at the back of the track opposite... still lauhghing at it now!

haha yer it was jeff comin down the stright at full pelt. he wanted a good run. it was all over when i got there after him all i saw was phil collectin the car from the other side of the track and shouting its broken. and tbh i only heard one shout and that was just before i heard the car crash to the floor and i was next to jeff.

brilliant day though. shame about the wet conditions but it did give me some valuable testing for different conditions

LOL ..... I tried but there where no blick spikes to be had, pink or otherwise! Didn't want to go to pins as it would be no use as a reference for the future.

To be fair I think it was best to do it the way I did as at least the Schumy greens where consistent(ly poor) through all runs which meant I learnt a lot more about the BJ4WE than I would have done if I had shifted tires too much.

Anyway the most important thing was it turned out to be a very enjoyable school day....

Your a spanner:mad::confused:

There is nothing wrong with this car, infact at the moment it is as quick as my Losi XXXcr and that was straight out of the box. The only thing i changed was the rear springs, and got more lock out of the car.
Time will tell how quick the car can be, but after yesterday it looks promising.

It's really good Ian, I was a bit aprehensive about the strength of the plastic, it held up well to a days racing at Kidderminster, so as far as I am concerned there are no quality issues with it.

Right the main track that you raced on at the F3's, was 95% grass and 5% astroturf (so thats the grass track)

The next track is the dirt track (mainly for the 1/8th cars) take a buggy round if you want but its as bumpy as silverstone.

Then you have the 99.5% astroturf track think it's quite simple really.

Don't you Mike:confused:;)

And as for the anti squat i thought the 2 degree's on the brace meant 2 degree's toe in not anti squat.

An eleven lapper escaped me all day by two damn seconds (10L 302s) Fourth round was on to be quick but a 47 second lap screwed that up when i put it on its back on the back straight (Marshal no man land). I was 7th in the B. Came 5th after a great battle with a person I dont know (D4 or BJ4 I think, with lots of lightenining in the rear part of the shell?).

Was a good days racing, glad i was doing 4wd as i think 2wd would have been horrible. Qualified 7th in the A then proceded to carry on the routine of my final 2 rounds and break it in the final. Was my own fault tho. hehe Think i managed to finish 9th in the end as think someone forgot to put a transponder in. Didn't have the speed of the front guy's but what can you expect from quite old 3300's  Still the car was very drivable, just need some new batteries after christmas.

I enjoyed the day, even if trying to get a set-up on teh BJ4WE was proving VERY difficult.

Bri's comment about getting me off the double probably cost Tom TQ as when marshalling with Bri anywhere on the track near me I just wanted to get away from the jump altogether!!!!!! There you go Tom .... Brian's fault!

Learned two things today,

BJ4WE does not like being set soft at all .... not even a little bit :(
When set stiff it was about as agile and drivable as an oil tanker :(

Bearings are the biggest worry. Just take them out the hubs and clean them. Diff bearings are normally ok, unless your diffs are very crunchy, then you might think about a proper rebuild.

You should have done that by now, mines was done last night, as generally if it's wet your bearings will get packed full of sand and sieze quite nicely.

i clean mine each round with a 1/2 inch paint brush so the sand doesn't build up around the bearings, then oil after a full strip at home. There is very little sand in the track after about 4 years of rally x and truggies taking it home with them lol. it used to fill the inside of your wheels in the early days.

Jonny_H
28-11-2007, 01:17 PM
prob a stupid question but i wanna know how far to strip my car down to clean it off after the weekend. how far would that bloody sand have penitrated?Don't know what you mean! :p The level of damp in the track was about perfect - my car was coming off spotless (by Baginton standards...)! :wtf:

Cracking day's racing (once I'd given up breaking it on the double) - with a very close qualifying battle for the middle 4WD places. I didn't get caught up in the first corner of the final, so that counts as a success for me!

Mine stuck alright with it, but i did put the tyres in the footwell of my car and have the heater on full blast.

Losi thick glue is the best for cold damp conditions though.

I think the best would be Ballistic mini pins, but they're not the chosen tyre for the national, so unlikely many will run those. I think in the wet ballistic buggy mini spikes would be the best national tyre (and what most will run on the 10th). someone correct me if i'm wrong!

I had a great day too, learnt a lot more about the ZX5-SP and by the final had a great car that could be really pushed. Shame I didn't do a clean run all day, but then again I can accept when the result is of my making .....

The end result was more to do with my lack of real off-road over recent months, carpet is no replacement for the great outdoors in many many ways!

Looking forward to Cov now.

Ash, I saw some of your races and personally I think that at the minute the car seamed to fast for you. What motor were you running today? Also how did your set up seam as most corners you seamed to be running quite wide (also possibly down to the speed) Don't worry you were not the only one guity of this. we were trying to get someones b4 set up right and its too fast for him at the moment.

I enjoyed the day very much. That weather was perfect for racing. The b44 is great for me compared to the BX, It seemed so settled, I could do consistant, I just need to do it quicker now. Great people in my heat too, Simon, Martin, Spencer, Roger, Mike, Jeff... so little on-track agro...

My son also ran his second ever non club meeting and improved each round which please both of us.

i think this was mainly due to having harld no shock oil in my front shocks lol as i thought i had filled them but only did rears lol havent run my xx4 since first round of winter series at kiddy. As i only has 2 finishes i was more worried about getting a time than gettign car dialled i like alittle safe understeer i was runnign a 6.5

Ash, If i was you i would consider possibly running a 7.5 or stick with the 6.5 and don't use full power and work on your lines more as this is where most of the time is made. I think in my second run i was only using full power in about 3 places, mainly cus it was quite close in our heat and i posted my fastest of the day.

Great days racing yesterday. Weather was a bonus. Car worked really well yesterday on Ballistic green spikes. Used 1 of Chris Doughty's set ups of the Atomic website.
Had some close racing during the heats with Jason and Jonathan Clarke.
2nd round 1.5 secs between 2nd & 6th at the finish.
In the final had a good battle for 1st with Simon Overall. Dumped on the last lap. Looking forward to the next round.

Glad to hear that you all enjoyed yesterday. Shame about the number of no shows. As Tony closed the books during the week when we had 80, it meant some were refused entry - apologies if you were one of those.
Still, we had 74 who raced - not bad for a winter meeting.

Thanks to the Kiddy club for a very very good meeting still one of my favourite tracks, just a shame it is 2 hours drive away for me. I have been realy dissapionted with my racing over winter (indoors) I now know that indoors does not suite me. I ran in 4wd with my D4 and it was fantastic as Neil has said was in a good heat which made for clean runs ended up qualifying 10th in the B which I was well happy with. I had a good half race battle with a B44 I think (sorry dont know your name) and got past on the last lap to finish 4th, so it was well worth the 4 hour round trip.

One last thing my two fastest times of the Day both 12 319 where done using five cells, the car felt easy to drive smooth but still with good speed on the straight.

By no way is that car is to fast for me the main reason why i ran wide on 2 of the corners the first one was because it was damp there and i didnt have new tyres my tyres where ptetty old. And the corner at the top left hand corner is because if i take it to close i just clip it and end up on my roof. So take it wide and i dont roll it savign load sof time. Other than that i wasnt taking any of the corners wide.

Wraggy's slipper is very sensitive... especially when he asks for it tightened and the tit holding the spanner loosens it! I still claim it was the wind that caused me to miss hear that request... ;)

I liked the layout at Kiddy yesterday, pretty challenging, especially when the left side was covered in frost, and the right side was bathed in sun...
