Cat SX2 Differential Loosen

Hi,
í´m from Portugal and I have a Cat SX2.
Every time I walk the diferential loosening or starts to slip.
Previously had a Sx1 Cat and the same was not true.
Already checked the assembly with your manuel over again and everything is ok.
Can you help me in solving this problem?
I do not know what to do ....:cry:

make sure grub screw is tightened against the diff screw nice and tight and make sure diff thrust race washer aren't flattened

This could be simply down to your C clip needing to be widened before you put it.So when you put it together Stretch it so it has a 6mm gap and then clip it in. If it is a loose fit you can have the problem of it pushing out.

Once it is in the recess and you cant spin it round then it should be fine. If not your thrust race washers could be the issue but they are not old by the sound of it.

I have the same problem and i dont no how to solve the problem ,already rebuild the diffs about five times and stays exactly the same ,when i hit the track the 2mm screw doesn't unscrew but the diffs still spinning...
i´m very disappointing about the car...
its not my first car

Swap the diff around, make left to right...

The adjustable screw needs to be on the left side, SPUR Side!!!
or when it's easier to see: The grub screw on the right side / NOT spur side !!

Otherwise the screw can come loose at acceleration because the thread/winding of the screw has the same rotation as the diff when driving...

As long as the diffs are set on the bench not to slip and the grub screw is locked down, there is no way it can slip in the car. I would remove them, clean re-grease and re-adjust on the bench.

It doesnt matter which side you put the screw head on, its locked down by the grub screw. I've defied the odds for years and ran the screw head on the right side of every car I've owned without any diffs mysteriously loosening :p

The case can be, that diff rings are slipping on outdrives - check that.

My trusty rear diff ruined my night tonight at club. In round 3 it felt solid and was difficult to drive for the 1st minute of the race which lost me time. after a minute it loosened up so I picked up the pace regaining time.

After round 3 I stripped the diff down and found the balls and rings dry and no grease in there. cleaned and re-greased and rebuilt it. Felt nice so I put in a minute of track time in between races and it came loose. tightened it back up and reinstalled for the final and within a couple of laps it came undone. :(

Slightly against any BRCA rules I swapped the diff mid-race and carried on (It was a club night so didn't matter), but the car wasn't as good as when I had the original diff in. :D

New washers and C clip on order tomorrow I think

turned out it was my thrust bearing sticking. the balls had grooved the 2 washers really deep so they were sticking the whole thing together and undo'ing the screw. re-built it all with new parts and so far it feels nice. Gonna pop to Kiddy tomorrow to test round the track

I've had problems with my diff slipping today, it hasn't come undone, it just slips and even tightening it an extra 1/8 of a turn didn't help.
I've just stripped one and noticed that the back of the washer where it sits against the outdrive has been greased, is that correct or should that side be dry?

Should be dry on the back side of the rings: as Pavel said the diff rings could well be slipping against the outdrives if they're greased.

Yes, once i had the diff out of the car and made it slip i could see that was what was happening, i've now rebuilt them with the diff rings glued to the outdrives.

i glue my plates to the outdrives too, and tightening down the grub screw will insure no slippage or loosening.

What glue do you use to glue the plates onto the outdrives as if you want to flip over the plates to use the other side once worn must be a nightmare as I normally use a bit of diff lube between the plate and diff outdrive and never had any problems.

My rings slipped against the outdrives last night. I think the balls have flat spotted though...

What glue do you use to glue the plates onto the outdrives as if you want to flip over the plates to use the other side once worn must be a nightmare as I normally use a bit of diff lube between the plate and diff outdrive and never had any problems.

I used a thin superglue, you can always pop them in a solvent to remove it again.

the balls had flat spotted on mine causing the rings to spin no matter how tight it was done up. the diff hadn't undone itself so the thrust bearing was still working perfectly. I'll install new plates and balls soon. (Big car insurance and MOT due at the end of the month)
