The cheapest must be the Hobbywing Xerun 150A direct from HK which you can pickup for around £75. As for motor you can get the 2250KV buggy motor 4168-SL for £57. The next level up is the Castle Monster Mamba Max which you can get as a combo for around £180 and then it is the top level Tekin RX8 which as a combo can be as much as £260.

I ran that exact setup in my VE8, excellent value for money & never missed a beat.

What lipos did you use with that setup? What sort of run time? I know space is limited in the ve8

you can run any lipo less than 140mm long

i will be using the turnigy 4500 4s hard case for qualifying and dependant on conditions either that or the 6000 4s for finals.

not using it yet as the ve8 not arriving till i sold my nitro setup, but a 6000mah on my friends hyper 9e with mamba max setup will do a 20 min final if its not too muddy and easily does our standard 15 min club finals

a 4500mah should easily do a qualifying heat of 6 - 10 mins depending on where you race

They certainly are, and that makes it the most expensive option but I did love my RX8 but it is dead now as the T8 motor's rotor decided to disintegrate and the RX8 died.

Had both of them for over a year and warranty is only 120 days. :( Already had the RX8 replaced during the original warranty period after a component came off the main PCB. The T8 failure was un usual as the magnets disintegrated on the rotor and the outer bindings had let go.

I know they will warranty it anyways. I send stuff over to them all the time out of warranty without receipts. They are that kind of company, good. If they ask just say got it as an anniversary gift from your wife 6 weeks ago and obviously wives do not keep receipts. They really never ask me to be honest. They just want to earn your loyalty and solidify their reputation for excellent service. Castle Creations will stick you on the time limit thing though.

Castle has a clearance sale with some nice cheap 1/8 motors:

Only downside is that the motor doesn't have any warranty.

Combine that with a Xerun 80a and you have a nice setup IMO.

Sounds exactly what I need to pop in an RC8E...

Though, the combo from Blacksmith is a bargain...
