Racing insurance

With so much talk around various forms of insurance going on I was wondering how many people actually got seriously hurt by RC cars. I'm not talking about a Friday night beer fueled parking lot session where you tried to see how many of your fat mates bellies you can clear jumping the beer crate (been there and done that! :D:D:D), I am talking proper accidents that required medical assistance.:rolleyes:

Anyone ever actually see anything serious happen?

Personally I have never seen a serious accident in RC. I heard of someone's foot being broken when hit by a 1/8 nitro buggy at full speed but it's nothing more than hearsay so... over to you...

A driver at DHD broke his ankle when marshalling last year, he stepped on a track marking, not sure what the outcome was though.....

If you are a BRCA member it's included in your membership as far as I know. It's non-BRCA members that are not covered.

when i raced 5th scale a car went out of control and fit a marshal flat out and broke his leg/ankle (big ouch) but again not sure on the outcome , and yes you have 3rd party public liability insurance if your a brca member

The way I understand it is, your BRCA insurance covers you if you hurt someone else, ie 3rd party.....

but also note the bit that says " you marshal at your own risk" one reason if a driver is reving the nuts off his car and the wqheels are doing warp factor ten, i leave well alone!


brca insurance does also NOT cover damage or theft of your equipment

So if a driver hurts himself doing whatever during a race or gets hurt doing marshalling you have no cover regardless of the fact that you are a BRCA member? :confused:

Do the clubs carry insurance then for personal injury? And if they do what happens when visiting, non member drivers race there?

So BRCA membership basically is only good for protecting yourself in case you get sued for hurting someone else?

covers loss or damage whilst not racing
there is a link off of the BRCA site.
upto 1k 51 quid and 2k for 101quid

Top marks to the BRCA though for actually getting someone to sort out some cover but needs to be a realistic figure for us spares whores. My home insurance will do better cover for nothing up to £8k.
