Get yourself an xbox 360 203W power supply off ebay... with a couple of mods you've got a small, light 16A power supply for £15.

Xbox supply is an awesome idea!

I use a CCTV supply, 12v 20A for about £23.30 off the bay.

Remove the rubber feet and undo the 4 screws they cover up. This will allow the case to come apart. I think there are then 2 small screws to undo to completely remove the supply from the case.

Cut the power output cable down at about the point where it exits the box and remove the outer plastic sleeve and shielding.

You should then see:
Some yellow wires (12v)
Some black wires (0v)
Red wire (switch)
Blue wire (switch)

You need to solder the red and blue wires together to keep the power supply in the 'on' position (otherwise it will just be in standby). Or you can connect them to a switch, but I didn't see any point in that.

Get a couple of 15A 4mm banana sockets from maplins. I used these ones:

Drill a couple of holes in the case for the sockets to go into and fit the sockets.

Solder all of the yellow wires to the red socket, and the black wires to the black socket. Actually I used some eyelets like these as I didn't fancy trying to solder directly to the socket posts:

Put it all back together and hope you don't blow yourself up . Since you're only playing with the 12V end it should be safe enough as long as you dont mess with the 240v end.
